Re: Need Python alternative to Request-Tracker help desk software

I've been tasked with either implementing Request-Tracker to upgrade our help desk issue tracking system or finding a Python equivalent (both in terms of functionality and wide spread use). Request-Tracker uses Apache and MySQL, which would also be appropriate to Python.

I would prefer to go the Python route, especially since Request-Tracker is written in Perl (which I don't know).

My initial attempts with Google were not useful due to the general nature of the keywords.

Are there any suggestions.
You should have a look at Trac (http://trac.edgewall.org/) and
roundup (http://roundup.sourceforge.net/).

Both are written in Python and provide excellent issue tracking.
They differ a bit in design and approach to issue tracking, so
you will likely need to investigate a bit further before you decide.

Both are easy to extend and adapt to whatever needs you have.

Greetings, I am new to python and wish to embed python in an 3D graphics application to provide application automation. The high level goal is to be able to drive my app from a script for batch job like behavior rather than via the GUI (ie. I would like to run a script and see those changes reflected in the GUI as if the user had clicked buttons, etc.) The application is written in C++ and uses QT for the GUI. I have read the python...

This question may be simple, so please bear with me. We have a mainly ASP VBScript website running on IIS. I've installed Python and created a CGI form which takes text input and produces a string of URLs. The CGI page works fine. Currently, when submitting the form the user is redirected to the CGI file's embedded html page. I would like for the user to submit the form and be brought back to the originating VB/ASP page with the...

I don't know if this is a fair comparison or not. Any comments appreciated. - Python is more readable, and more general purpose - PHP has awful backward compatibility - PHP has a lower barrier to entry - Most inexpensive web-hosters support PHP, but not Python - PHP has far more pre-writen scripts available - Newer versions of mod_python require Apache 2.0, which few hosters have

Python provides a quite good and feature-complete exception handling mechanism for its programmers. This is good. But exceptions, like any complex construct, are difficult to use correctly, especially as programs get large. Most of the issues of exceptions are not specific to Python, but I sometimes feel that Python makes them more acute because of the free-n- easy manner in which it employs exceptions for its own uses and allows users...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
