Tk Tkinter : multiple file selection dialog over multipledirecto ries ?

Hi, TKinter question

Let's say I use:
....

files = tkFileDialog.as kopenFilenames( filetypes=[('AccessDB Files',
'*.mdb')])

....

This works OK - I can select multiple files and the var "files" will
be a tuple of the files.

But let's say the files I want to select are in different folders/
directories, when I select a file then go to a different dir and try
to select a 2nd file it overwrites the 1st file entree.

Is there a way for multiple file selection over different directories?
With a dialog box or another way?

Thanks. Using Python 2.4.1

The simple/obvious way is click a "save" button which appends the
files selected into a list. Then move on to the next directory and
repeat. Is there a reason why this won't work?

I would like to link the contents of three OptionMenu lists. When I select an item from the first list (call it continents), the contents of the 2nd list (call it countries) would update. And in turn the contents of the 3rd list (call it states would be updated by a change in the 2nd list. If anyone can share a recipe or some ideas, I'd be grateful! Here's some sample code that displays three OptionMenus, but doesn't update the list...

Hi! Have anyone ever tried to modify the Gene Cash's Tkinter tree widget (available from http://home.cfl.rr.com/genecash/) so it supports multiple items selection ( selection of multiple files like in Windows Explorer - CTRL and SHIFT keys for file selection)? Thank you in advance for any hints! Best Wishes,

Or maybe someone knows the tree component available to download that supports multiple items selections? Then I will be able to take a look at the code and see how the multiple...

Hi, I'm having trouble with the code below. It's just a regular Tk text widget in which you can type and select text as expected, however the call to tkFileDialog.askopenfilename() seems to screw things up. After the file dialog, I can no longer use the Text widget (typing, selecting, it doesn't work anymore!) What am I doing wrong? TIA, --Irmen de Jong

I posted the following yesterday and got no response and did some testing simplifying the circumstances and it appears that deepcopy fails when the object to be copied contains a reference to a Canvas Object. Perhaps any Tkinter object, didn't get that far. The problem arises because I have a geometry tutorial with a progression of drawings and want the students to be able to go "back". Creating "snapshots" of points in time in the...

Hey, I'm currently trying to find a way to open a dialog box that will allow me to select more than one file at a time, so if I want to upload select all the files in a directory, I won't have to have the number of dialog boxes as files in the directory. I was thinking of using a ActiveX control, but I don't want to make the sure download additional components to be able to do this, so is there maybe some sort of Windows ActiveX control...

Hello: Below I have included a stripped down version of the GUI I am working on. It contains 2 dialog boxes - one main and one settings. It has the following problems, probably all related, that I am hoping someone knows what I am doing wrong: 1) Pressing the Settings.. Button multiple times, brings up many instances of the Settings Panel. I just want it to bring up one. Is there an easy way to do that?

Hi, I'm in the process of writing some code and noticed a strange problem while doing so. I'm working with PythonWin 210 built for Python 2.5. I noticed the problem for the last py file processed by this script, where the concerned tmp file is only actually written to when PythonWin is closed. In other words, after I run this script, one of the generated tmp files has a size of 0kB. I then close PythonWin and it is then written to.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
