Capture file descriptors while running an external program

Hi all!

I have a problem with the module subprocess!
The problem is that the external software that I am running under
subprocess.Pope n opens stdin, stdout, stderr, and other file descriptors to
write and read in the hard drive.
I know how to capture stdin, stdout and stderr, what I cannot do is to capture
the other file-descriptors. Is there any way to wrap those non-standard file
descriptors and make them write and read from a specific object that I define?
I know that I can use tmp files to do that, but i would like something running
without tmp files.

Hi, I have program, which opens file at the startup and logs error messages to the file, file handle is closed at the end of the program. However if file is deleted in-between, program do not report any error while writing to the open file handle. On Windows, file shows-up again in explorer and automatically deleted finally when program ends. On Unix, same thing happens if file is on nfs mounted drive, but in this case, actual file is...

Hi! I have problems with the following scenario: My application is developed using C# under .NET. It must run on all Windows versions starting from Windows 98. The user must open different documents (txt, MS Office files, pdf, pictures,…) from inside my app. It must start the file with the adequate external program (Notepad, MS Office programs, Acrobat Reader, some Picture viewer,... ) and be notified when this programs closes the...

I wrote a small data processing application that writes a summary of several hundred files. I use drag and drop on a panel (Panel1) to grab the absolute path to each of these files. Then I begin analyzing all of the files. I noticed (on the same machine) that some user profiles appear to abbreviate the absolute paths to these files thus breaking my data loading mechanism. Does anyone know how I can programmatically change this filepath...

>I have a problem with the module subprocess! As many other programs... I'm not sure what you mean by "non-standard file descriptors". The other program is free to open, read, write, etc any file he wants - are you trying to trap any file operation it may want to do? You *could* do such things -google for "code injection" and "API hooking"- but I doubt it's what you really want.

I am attempting to set up Q Capture on RH Linux (x86_64) using DB2 9 fp2, but there seems to be a general problem loading a specify MQ shared library "/opt/mqm/lib/libmqm_r.so". I have MQ v6 installed in the default directory and working. I can generate the similar errors in two ways (1) through the Replication Center attempting to validate the Q objects and (2) after manually creating the Q objects and running the asnqcap program. ...

Hi, I tried the packet capture module program. I did a file transfer using ftp from this host to another server. But when I ran the program, it was just hanging off and it did not print the src ip, dst ip, src port, dst port. Should I run this program as a Daemon? If so, how do I do that? I would appreciate your response.

I have a c/c++ program in linux. I would like to know if I kill my program (e.g. exit(1)), will it release all the file descriptors my program held (regardless if I call close(fd) of each file descriptor)? Thank you.

I had asked this in comp.lang.c++ with out any answers that would actually work, so I'm hoping someone here may know a way. I am calling C library functions that want to output to stdout. I need to capture this to memory for use internally inside the program without modifying the library calls that actually do the output. This is for the GraphViz libraries and it is the output of dot that I'm actually trying to capture. I have...

Hi all, I am writing a multi-threaded application in c++ running on solaris. I have a file which is updated by a single thread by appending data into the file and at same time the other threads are reading the content written into the file. Can anybody tell me is there a performance or any other gain (except for the multex locking) by using different file descriptors in each thread for the same file rather than using a single FD with a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
