I have a module whose behaviour needs to be configurable. The module needs to decide, the first time it is imported, beteween alternative interfaces it presents. Currently, I set some environment variables which select the desired behaviour, and the module inspects those variables to determine the mode in which it should set itself up. I would prefer a pure Python solution, rather than one which depends on external state. Can you...

In very rare cases a program crashes (hard to reproduce) : * several threads work on an object tree with dict's etc. in it. Items are added, deleted, iteration over .keys() ... ). The threads are "good" in such terms, that this core data structure is changed only by atomic operations, so that the data structure is always consistent regarding the application. Only the change-operations on the dicts and lists itself seem to cause problems...

Is there anyway to programatically confirm that specific field names exist in the first row of a given Excel spreadsheet from code within Access? I have code set up to import data from our spreadsheets from HQ into our Access database for further use, using the first row as column headings to determine the destination field in the Access table. Since it's possible (and probable) that HQ could change the format of the spreadsheets without...
