Hi,
I have a question about wxPython.
On Windows systems, you can point your mouse over most items on your
desktop and a after a second or so, a small window will pop-up with
extra info about the thing your pointing at (try e.g. move your mouse
over the time in the right corner and a window will pop-up with the
date).
I was wondering this can be done with wxPython. I basically want to
create a wxTree object and when I point the mouse over the objects in
the tree I would like to have these kind of smal pop-up windows that
display more info about the object you are pointing at.
Any help much appreciated.

See wxToolTip - you can set a tooltip with the SetToolTip method on most
objects.

I have a problem that I would like to get some advice on from other
Pythonistas. I currently manage a (soon to be) open source project for
displaying molecular graphics for a variety of different programs. To
do this I need to draw pictures of the molecules, typically using
OpenGL, and do some basic control, using some widget set.
The code currently uses GTK, and runs on Macintosh OS X under Fink,
and Linux. I would like to support the...

I just recently started trying to teach myself python and wxPython. The
python portion of that hasn't been much of a problem as documentation
seems available and of good quality.
While I was working with wxPython I was beginning to think I was a
little dense and missing something very important. Then I started
reading the thread about python documentation and in particular the part
about wxPython documentation. That made me feel so...

I've been experimenting with passing a window handle from a wxPython app to
a Tkinter app. The Tkinter app should embed a Toplevel window containing a
Canvas widget in the wxPython app's Frame (see example below).
Both apps run, but the Tkinter app's output doesn't appear.
Can anyone see why this isn't working?
Using wxPython-2.5.1/Python 2.3.3/Win98 and Win2000.

At the time this suggestion was made I didn't have the wherewithall to even attempt it. But over time I learned enough to make a stab at it. Let just say the foating DIV had to provide the same advantages as a chromeless window else it really wouldn''t help.
You see the idea is that the chromeless window forces a client to make a choice. It cannot be closed until a choice is made. If the user decides not to allow the chromeless window to...

I'm implementing an album-like application with wxpython but I'm new to
wxPython though I know how to program with python. The problem is that
it's not easy for me to deal with drawing layout stuff with wxpython.
What layout I'm thinking of looks like the gif image above.
The application is about saving some comments for each pictures on the
filesystem. There are two windows. The above one is a...

Dear all:
I made a window program by wxPython. Split windows, treectrl, listctrl
and textctrl are used. When I program in python, the look & feel of the
window controls are like the windos XP look & feel, with thin and flat
border (My os is window XP). It's natural because, as I know, wxPython
use native look and feel.
But when I convert the program to EXE file by Py2exe, and run it, the
look & feel is bad. It's just like the windows...

Hi,
I am trying to develop an application which would mainly do the
following 2 things . I would like to know how it can be achieved and
also the libraries needed for it .
i) active window tracking
In this substate, the application records the title bar
contents of the active/foreground window
and how long, in seconds, that that window is active/in
the foreground. If the same window

Hi Diez & All,
Do you mind explaining "why" you find it *buttugly*? I am asking just
out of curiosity, obviously. I am so biased towards wxPython that I
won't make any comment on this thread in particular, but I am curious
to know why some people find it "ugly" or "bad" or whatever. It has
its own bugs and missing features, of course, but it is one of the
major GUI player in the arena, together with PyQt and PyGTK.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
