Hello,
I have a problem with python builds since some time.
On windows, it is not a good idea to link your debug build to release
builds of libs and dlls.
But python installer gives you only release builds.
So I need to build python myself, no problem, but ....
I have never managed to setup python like the way installer does. (I
guess it does some registry and env var tricks.) For example,
- it is not possible to install extensions like wxPython, because the
wxPython installer doesn't like my custom installation
- WinCVS never gets my custom python installation
and so on.
Can you give me any hints on this nasty problem ?
Thanks,

I haven't tested with a debug build of wxPython, but if you use the
ActivePython distro you can get a package with the debug DLLs.
The main installer: http://ftp.activestate.com/ActivePyt...win32-ix86.msi
The package of debug bits: http://ftp.activestate.com/ActivePyt...ix86-debug.zip

Thanks Trent. That's good news.
Does ActivateState produce the debug package everytime they build a
python release ?
If this is a policy at ActivateState, I will feel myself on better
grounds :)

With some googling I have found these resources:

http://www.python.org/doc/faq/windows.html
I have a large Win32/MFC/C/C++ application that has an embedded scripting
language (a very limited one). I would like to rip it out and replace it
with Python. I am thinking that this would be relatively simple since the
scripting language is a very small interface between the UI and the
engine --...

As what must be penance for something or other, I'm needing to release
a Python app for use under Windows XP. Please be gentle with me since
I'm a Un*x weenie and the only thing I've had much practice with under
Windows is rebooting it.
My app contains three different programs (say alice.py, bob.py, and
carol.py) that need to be independently launchable, and a dozen or so
other .py files that get imported into those first three. What...

Hi all, I'm having a nightmare with Windows Installer projects and souce
control. My situation is that I have a few related windows application /
dlls, some generic shared library files and a windows installer to install
it. I have all of these in the same solution to enable easy debugging and
maximum flexibility.
I want my source control to be something like this (from the /$ root)

Using Visual Studio, 2003:
When I create a deployment project and try to install it, I get Installer
Error 2705: Invalid Table, Could not be linked as tree.
How can I debug this? It seems that I should view the .msi file, but I don't
know how.
My Solution has several dlls in its hierarchy.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks,
Dennis

DB2 Team -
I just downloaded and unzipped the new Fixpack 9 for DB2 ESE V8 for
Windows (FP9_WR21350_ESE.exe). I then burned the unzipped Fixpack
files to a CD. I proceded to install this Fixpack on a test machine
running ESE but encountered a serious error during the install. It
started 'copying new files' but then stopped cold and displayed a
dialog box asking me to "Please insert disk 1". (It all fit on one
CD!) I clicked OK...

Using remote debugging, I can attach to a windows service and run it in
debug mode in VS.Net 2003.
The problem is this service uses two supporting dlls. On the remote
service, the dlls have been registered in the GAC. They are also in the
service's directory, along with their associated *.dbg symbols. Yet, any
breakpoint in the dlls is not hit.
The dlls are part of the project file, and breakpoints in them can be hit
when I debug...

I have a windows service project created with a timer that fires an event
over and over. I created an installer & the service appears to install
correctly. When I try to start the service I get a message that the service
started and stopped. Is there some setting I need to do to make the service
keep going until I tell it to stop?
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
which compiler will Python 2.5 on Windows (Intel) be built with? I
notice that Python 2.4 apparently has been built with the VS2003
toolkit compiler, and I read a post from Scott David Daniels where
he said that probably the VS2003 toolkit will be used for Python 2.5
again. However, even before the release of Python 2.5, I cannot seem to
find many retailers around here that still carry Visual Studio 2003,
and some were a...

I'm really starting to hate writing services -- or trying to, anyway.
Why do I need to rename my project to the service name?
Why do I need to set the "ServiceName" property to my service name?
Why do I need to set a property within my code to the service name?
Are all these required or am I just doing this for consistency purposes?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
