Asking for help effectively

Manish> It does not work. I had already tried this earlier.
Manish> Please suggest some other solutions.
Manish> Also, I would like to see the stack from where the exception
Manish> started.

Manish,

You made it extremely difficult for anyone to respond intelligently to your
message. It has at least the following problems:

1. The subject isn't related to the problem you are trying to solve.
Many people won't go beyond that.

2. You quoted an entire python-list digest. Which digest message were
you responding to? If I was going to try and help directly with the
problem you are having (instead of trying to get you to ask for help
more effectively), I'd have to read the entire digest and try to
figure out which messages are pertinent.

3. You top-posted, and worse, because of #2, your comment is nowhere near
the actual message text you were responding to, making it that much
more difficult to identify your problem.

Read this essay:

http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

then try again.

Hi, My english is not top notch and I am trying to understand what K&R2 Ex 5-11 is asking for (pg 118). It says: Modify the programs entab and detab (which I completed from chapter 1 and have on hand) to accept a list of tab stops as arguments. Use the default tab settings if there are no arguments. I am having difficulty understanding the question (not asking for answer to it). Any help would be helpful (thus the common root "help").

Hi, I need help with this program. The program is supposed to take a text file and identify the words in it, then it should print them and count how many times a word is repeated. At first main called the function wordcount, and then the function did everything including printing out the results. That worked. Now I want to make the function return an array of pointers to struct palabra so the calling function can manage the data as it...

Hi, I have developed a windows service in C# and I am using a Visual Studio 2003 installer to install it. When I am updating the service, I usually stop the service in control panel, close control panel (if I don't close, the service will often not properly uninstall), use software uninstallation to remove the service and install the new version via setup.exe.

Hello all...I have an issue with one of my java script functions that I'm hoping someone can easily help with. I have a web based application that we use to create/sign up for overtime. When we have holidays we require our employees to sign up in 4 hr increments for the times we post. I'm having trouble creating a time slot that ends @ 12am. 12pm and all other hours work fine for start/end times. however 12am causes problems. My actual...

Hello, I did some experiments with VC++ 2005, and some ILDasm. Please tell me if I have understood the concepts of C++ programming under .NET, since I'm a bit confused! -- There are 4 types of classes in VC++/CLI: Unmanaged classes (i.e. normal classes compiled in a unmanaged source or dll , the code is unmanaged and CPU native). Accessible from C++/CLI

Hello, I've worked on an API for quite some time and have (on several occasions) tried to introduce generics at the core abstract level of business objects (especially a hierarchical node). The current non-generic implementation is functional, but not as clean as I would like. Although not sure, I believe my problems stem from lacking support of co- and contravariance in C# (which I'm desperately hoping will make it in the next version)....

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
