Are there any Eric 3 users out there?
I've been thinking about trying it.
Also, if I write scripts for internal use only at my company, do I have
to purchase a Qt or pyqt license?
Thanks for the info!

Until the GPL versions of Qt4 and PyQt4 are available for Windows (and eric
has been ported to it) you will need Qt and PyQt licenses.

Hello all!
I am trying to install eric3, the Python IDE. I've downloaded and installed
successfully sip-3.8, QScintilla-1.2 and PyQT-3.8. However, when I try to
install eric, I get the following error:
Sorry, please install PyQt.
I looked into the install script, then I opened a Python window and there I
tried import qt and I got the following error:

I am kind of new to Python, and after trying and using wxPython, I found
it kind of lacking in easy-to-read documentation, speed at loading, and
GUI response-time.
So I am looking for an another GUI toolkit that is cross-platform for
Python, and am leaning toward PyQt (PyGTK is kind of dull looking in
comparison). Unfortunately, although TrollTech says Qt is
cross-platform, its license strategy has me a bit confused. So here is
to...

Hello all,
I'm working on a little application using PyQt. The main window is just a
dialog with 2 progress bars and a few labels. In its original form, the
dialog started, then ran a function which downloaded a directory full of
files from an ftp server, using an ftplib.FTP object's retrbinary function.

Now, inside the callback function of the retrbinary call, I was calling the

OK, so I'm at the stage where I want to make a choice between wxPython
and PyQt.
Currently I'm using wxPython mainly due to the fact that it has GPL
Linux and Windows versions.
I prefer Qt to wxWindows, but am confused with all the Windows
licensing issues.
For the moment this is just for my own tinkering and utility apps, but

I'm trying to get QT, SIP, and PyQt installed so I can try
out the Python editor eric. Both sip and qt appear to have
compiled and installed properly. Unfortunately, PyQt,
after compiling most of the files and starting what I
suspect is the final link step, fails with the follwing

Hi,
Is there any site that gather all the documentation about PyQt?
The docs of the Riverbank site is poor, and I have found separate
tutorials on the net.
I know that the Kompany have made a "Qtdoc"-like to PyQt. But it is not
free doc.

I've narrowed down my toolkit selection for my project to wxPython and
pyQt, and now i'd like to hear any opinions, war stories, peeves, etc,
about them, particularly from anyone who's used _both_toolkits_. I'm
only mildly interested in the IDEs and UI designers for each, as i
want to do as much as i can in just Xemacs and xterm. Feel free to
rant, rave, pontificate, whatever.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
