Hi,
I'm looking for recommendations for Python/XML books. Amazon.com
had 2 relevant books, Python&XML by Christopher Jones (from O'Reilly)
and XML processing with Python by Sean McGrath. The O'Reilly book
seemed to have better reviews.
But it concerns me that both books are rather old! Does anyone
have any newer references? Otherwise does the relative age of the
books (+3 years) really matter?

Hi all. I'm fairly new to programming and I thought I'd like to try
Python. I'm trying to decide between these two books:
Learning Python (O'Reilly)
Beginning Python: From Novice to Professional (APress)
and I was hoping you might have some suggestions. LP seems to be a good
intro, but the other was published only a month ago and covers 2.4. So
one question would be, is 2.2 different enough from 2.4 to warrant
getting the newer book...

Hi,
which of the following books would you recommend:
"Dive into Python" or "Beginning Python: From Novice to Professional"?
I'm an experienced C++-programmer who wants to take a look at Python.
Thanks,
Franz

While I work at a company that uses Python a lot (and would
have had a hard time finding such a place a few years ago) I
don't really have a clear opinion on whether Python's marketshare
(or mindshare) is growing significantly. Perl seems to be in
decline, but on the other hand, Ruby is attracting a lot of people.
One interesting thing I noticed when I visited Amazon.com
today, was that several publishers are busy making new
editions of...

I bet 50% of the posts I've read lately have had at least one bad thing
to say about every website or book dedicated to javascript.
There are clearly a few posters (you know who you are) who either are
or consider themselves to be the "comp.land.javascript elite". You guys
may be the brightest, most seasoned developers out there, and hats off
to you. You may not be, how the heck would I know. But...
Not to be too critical (which sounds...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
