Hi !
I have a python script represented by a string.
I need to execute it in a context. 'exec' does
the job, but doesn't display the filename in
tracebacks. 'execfile' is displaying the filename
but it can only exec a script in a filesystem.
I have tried:
- to give exec a filename, like:
exec script_content in dict({'__file__ ':'bla.py'})
=> didn't work (neighter with __name__)
- create an in-memory file subclassing 'file'
class memfile(file):
..
def read(self)..
=> also pointless as 'execfile' doesn't accept a file
only a filename
Can you help me ?
The only problem I need to resolve is that I don't see
the script name in tracebacks.
Thanks,
BranoZ
PS: The script didn't came from the filesystem, but I know
it's content and a name. 3 1673
Hi !
little idea :
You can save the string, in temp-directory (see tempfile module), then,
use execfile

compile the script first, and execute the resulting code object: exec compile("code", "filename", "exec")
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in ?
File "filename", line 1, in ?
NameError: name 'code' is not defined
</F>

Thanks for the tip!
Works great!

I'm puzzled by Python's behavior when binding local variables which
are introduced within exec() or execfile() statements. First, consider
this simple Python program:
# main.py
def f() :
x = 1
print "x:", x
f()

I have a number of files compiled to bytecode using py_compile.compile().
The .pyc files can be invoked by python directly ($python file.pyc), but
"loading" them by execfile just throws an exception ?
Any suggestions
Bo.

In doing the extension to the python debugger which I have here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=61395&package_id=175827
I came across one little thing that it would be nice to get done better.
I notice on stack traces and tracebacks, an exec or execfile command
appears as a stack entry -- probably as it should since it creates a
new environment.
However the frame information for exec or execfile looks like this:...

Hi all!
not be present in Py3k. So, I am wondering what will be its replacement?
Considering that most probably Py3k will keep eval and exec, this will
still be possible (indeed requiring manual loading of the file string), so
I would really appreciate some enlightning comments on this.

Basically this question is related to my learning process/working project.
In this, I have the need to allow the final user to provide a...

Hi all,
I'm finding the following behavior truly puzzling, but before I post a bug
report on the site, I'd rather be corrected if I'm just missing somethin
obvious.
Consider the following trivial script:

from math import sin, pi

I've got a Jython script where I'm doing an execfile() to pull in a
small script that contains a function, which I then call.
execfile(app_applscript)
optionList = createOptionList(applOptions)
When I do this at the global level in my main script, it works just
fine. However, when I move this code into a function in my main script,
then it fails, telling me it can't find the function createOptionList().

I maintain a few configuration files in Python syntax (mainly nested
dicts of ints and strings) and use execfile() to read them back to
Python. This has been working great; it combines the convenience of
pickle with the readability of Python. So far each configuration is
contained in a single standalone file; different configurations are
completely separate files.
Now I'd like to factor out the commonalities of the different...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
