Detecting Handle Leaks

Hello,

I have python module which uses C++ extension modules. If I run the Python
Module for a long time in an windows environment, Perfmon shows handle leaks
in Python.exe. Is there any way to detect it ?

Thanks in Advance.

The short form of the question is, how can I trace memory usage (preferably from C) with an eye toward finding out if I'm leaking memory? I would have thought there would be a ton of info on this, but I've been googling for half and hour and I keep coming up empty. I've recently ported Python to a realtime operating system, and I've implemented a small C extension module. The system controls a piece of equipment. A test program runs...

How would I go about detecting a memory leak? My web hosting provider has our site set up to only have a root "bin" folder for .NET apps, and I would like to be able to watch how much memory is being allocated for the entire site (since the site acts as one big application.) Is there anyway to do this through code? The reason I ask is because occasionally, our site will start having session state loss. After a day or two, it goes back...

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with trapping the <BODY> onUnload() event in ASP.NET? The thing is, I'm writing code for an Intranet site. The code makes a call to a third-party component (think of it as a lock) when the page loads. Now the OK and Cancel server buttons I can handle and use to release the lock as required. But previously in classic ASP I had been trapping the user hitting the close 'x' button by...

I have a problem where the below code chunk causes handle leaks on some machines. The leak APPEARS to be handles to the registry key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap The below code runs on a timer running several times per second and after about 15-30 minutes or so, it runs out of handles and crashes IE. I found an article on msdn discussing how setting properties in this

Hi all! I am doing a crude investigation of memory leaks in objects created by external libraries. Since I don't have access to the source code, I can't tell if an object are freeing its resources properly during destruction. For now, I need a portable function that can tell me the available free store memory. With that, I can do things like: size_t mem = getFreeStoreAvailable(); {

Handle Classes Handle classes, also called Envelope or Cheshire Cat classes, are part of the Bridge design pattern. The objective of the Bridge pattern is to separate the abstraction from the implementation so the two can vary independently. Handle classes usually contain a pointer to the object implementation. The Handle object is used rather than the implemented object. This leaves the implemented object free to change without affecting...

I have a vb.net program that leaks handles as reported by task manager. After running for a couple of hours, task manager reports over 1000 handles, and it continues to grow. I think I am failing to close or dispose something. I've looked at the code and can't spot the problem. The program is fairly big (10k lines). I can ask it to do something that always increases the handle count, so the problem is reproducible. What I don't know...

How to detect memory leaks of python programms, which run in an environment like this: * Suse Linux 9.3 * Apache * mod_python The problem occoured after some updates on the infrastructure. It's most possibly caused by trac and it's dependencies, but several components of the OS where updated, too.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
