I maintain various specs and FAQs in manually edited HTML documents, and I'd very much like some simple way of automatic section numbering as in 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.2 etc, with table of contents generation plugged into the start of the document so that each section can be accessed via a link (and also maybe automatic footnote numbering). ...

posted on: comp.lang.python emailed to: docs@python.org I have a suggestion/request that will, I think, improve the Python documentation. Currently, the Python documentation in HTML format is stored at URLs that change with each new release of Python. That is, for example, the documentation for the os module is at...

Due to lack of time, I have used MS FrontPage to create a few web sites. I've grown to despise it and want (and now have the time) to really learn HTML, CSS, etc. to create new sites. One feature of FP that I did like is that you could add a new page and easily incorporate the new page into the navigation system--you didn't have to edit each...

Here are some thoughts on reorganizing Python's documentation, with one big suggestion. The tutorial seems to be in pretty good shape because Raymond Hettinger has been keeping it up to date. It doesn't cover everything, but it's a solid introduction, and if people don't find it works for them, they have lots of alternative books. No...

Several problems ensue. 1) PDF's can be formatted for a page to fit on a sheet of 8.5 * 11 paper. I'm not sure how to this in HTML. 2) A PDF can be set to print all pages. I'm not sure how to do this with html either. Suggesting...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
