Can't connect to MS Exchange (SMTP) from WinXP

Hello All,

I can't connect to our Excahnge server using smtplib from a WinXP box.
Connection to the same server from a Linux box works.

The code:
from smtplib import SMTP
s = SMTP("our-mail-server")

Works fine on Linux but gives the following error in WinXP:
raceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\cygwin\tmp\ smtpchk", line 5, in ?
s = SMTP("our-mail-server")
File "C:\apps\Python 23\lib\smtplib. py", line 240, in __init__
(code, msg) = self.connect(ho st, port)
File "C:\apps\Python 23\lib\smtplib. py", line 302, in connect
raise socket.error, msg
socket.error: (10053, 'Software caused connection abort')

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi all, I have no knowledge of Exchange server, and have always used CDO to send emails from ASP in the past. My problem now is that the server in question doesn't have SMTP installed alongside IIS, it has Exchange installed which apparantly does have SMTP capabilities but not like the default ones normally accessbile via IIS. Has anyone ever used this approach to sending emails? I'm hoping that I dont need a component or anything...

All, Is there a simple way to send a plain email message via MS Exchange server? I know that it's pretty easy to send a message via SMTP using a standard ..NET library, but what about M$ Exchange? The computer where this app should be working has its own M$ Exchange server, all extra ports like POP3/SMTP are blocked and I have no way to use any external mail server, but I need to send an email message with some confirmation, actually to...

Hi all My intranet aspx application, needs to send email notifications. I understand there are 2 options for servicing emails in this case: 1) iis smtp service. 2)proprietary email relay server like the company's exchange server. I need to serve only a dozen intranet users. I am not sure what is the advantage of using iis smtp service over the exchangr server here? One advantage is that it should be well synchronized with my application

I want to write an outlook plug-in or even a separate app if necessary to connect to an exchange server to get mail off of it. My outlook is currently connected to Exchange server A, I need to get mail from Exchange server B and put it on Exchange server A. I'm tired of using multiple Outlook profiles. How do I connect to an exchange server programmatically and get mail? I'd like to do it as a plug in, but if it needs to be a separate...

I am writing an application that needs to email to specific users on our Exchange server and need to query it to see if the SMTP address I will be sending to exists. The application will be running on the same server as the Exchange Server. Environment is W2003 SP2 Exchange 2003 SP1. Allowing the email to bounce is not an option. Thanks in Advance, Mike Ober.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
