Dear Newsgroup,
I have a problem that is somewhat related to Alexandre Gillet's ones:
"build a static python executable".
I would like to make a C[++] program scriptable. Therefor, I have included
a python interpreter into the program. Additionally I have wraped all the
program's interfaces that I need, using SWIG. Finally, I have created a
shared library, which includes this interface and all functions that are
to be available from within python scripts. And it works: one can write
a script, which can access the program's routines and data, the main
program correctly loads them, using its python interpreter.
However, the program has to be linked dynamically. Once I try to change
the main program's linkage to static, loading any module, that is not a
plain python file (but a shared library), fails, saying:
Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?)
Since I need the program to be linked statically, I would appreciate any
hint on how to fix this problem.
I'm using gcc 3.2 under linux (2.4.19) and python 2.3.2 (also checked with
2.2).
Thanks

Hi,
I am trying to build a python interpreter that is static link.
My python interpreter was build on RedHat 8.0 using gcc 2.3 and GLIBC 2.3
When running on other linux flavor that still have GLIBC 2.2, the
interpreter won't start. (error message: /lib/libc.so.6: version
`GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by /mgl/python/i86Linux2/bin/python2.3)
Is there a way to build a static python interpreter using gcc 2.3 that
can run on any machine...

hello again.
i'm now into using python instead of another language(s) for
describing structures of data, including names, structure,
type-checks, conversions, value-validations, metadata etc. And i have
things to offer, and to request.
And a lot of ideas, but who needs them....
here's an example (from type_struct.py):

Is there any way to build the python executable statically and
still be able to load modules built as shared libraries?
I'm trying to run python scripts on a stripped down FreeBSD (4.9)
machine which has no shared system libraries so I want to link it
statically against libc et al, but it would be nice to still be
able to load modules which were built as shared libraries. In
particular I have a library for which I've generated a wrapper...

Hi.
pyvm is a program which can run python 2.4 bytecode (the .pyc files).
A demo pre-release is available at:
http://students.ceid.upatras.gr/~sxanth/pyvm/
Facts about pyvm:
- It's FAST. According to the "cooked-bench" benchmark suite it finishes
in 55% of the time python takes;)

I am trying to freeze a static executable. I built a static Python
executable this way:
./configure --disable-shared --prefix=/usr/local
make
make install
Even that didn't give me a really static executable, though:
$ ldd /usr/local/bin/python
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7f44000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xb7f40000)

I've just read an article "Building Robust System" by Gerald Jay

I have a question about the use of static members in Python/C

the Python Interpreter" docs:

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
