I would like to override the distutils install class. It doesn't look like
it was designed for that. Do I have to import distutils.command and
overwrite its install attribute? I didn't see anything about this sort of
thing in the distutils docs.

I know how to configure C code with Extension class in setup.py.
But, how do you handle header files??.. Do you mention them in your
Extension(...) line??
It seems you must
1. Treat them like data files and put them *somewhere*.

I specify packages in my setup.py but what if I want
all py files in a directory but one???
How remove just that one?? (Without listing all files I want explicitly??)
I need header files to build a C extension but I DON't want headers
installed.
