Beside its an opensource and supported by community, what's the fundamental
differences between PostgreSQL and those high-price commercial database (and
some are bloated such as Oracle) from software giant such as Microsoft SQL
Server, Oracle, and Sybase?
Is PostgreSQL reliable enough to be used for high-end commercial

ok, i'm confused.
i have two systems. one is redhat 7.1 (a server in colo, reasonably
current), the other is 8.0 (my laptop). the server in colo is running
postgresql 7.3.2 along with redhat's updated versions of apache and php for
7.1 (the php version is 4.1.2) on this server, php can access postgres
without difficulty.
my laptop is also running 7.3.2 along with the apache and php that go with
RH 8.0. i found a need to bring up...

Your PHP doesn't have support for PostgreSQL.

I start PostgreSQL in the services utility under Redhat 9.0 with no issues.
PostgreSQL runs properly but as soon as I log out PostgreSQL shuts down. It
seems that I always need to be logged in for it to stay running.
I am running:
Redhat 9.0 Kernel 2.4.20-20.9
PostgreSQL 7.3.4-3.rh19
I am not sure what else could be helpful.

This isn't entirely PG related, but...
Does anyone know what the natural upgrade path from
RedHat 9 is? I'm wondering if anyone on the PostgreSQL
team is working with redhat to package and bundle versions
of PostgreSQL for the latest redhat.
Is there going to be a RedHat 10? Or are we all supposed
to choose a path of RH Enterprise vs Fedora Core? I have
