All,
There seems to be a bug in pg_dumpall:
For one of my dbs I've done:
ALTER DATABASE dbname SET search_path = mw, public;
If I do a pg_dumpall I get a line like:
ALTER DATABASE dbname SET search_path TO 'mw, public';
note the 's. It's also in a place in the dump before the mw schema is
created. It's not a big problem but it makes dumps less automatic.
BTW If I do a pg_dump dbname I get a dump which does not reference the
search_path change. I'm not sure if this is by design or it is just
missing.
I'm using PostgreSQL 7.4.5 on linux
Thanks for any help.
Ben

Hi,
postgresql 7.4beta4 on linux
and postgresql 7.3.4 on linux
We have a database that we routinely backup using "pg_dump -a"
We have to do this (dump the data only) because of various characteristics of
the database (e.g. the dump file tries to create fks to tables that it hasn't
created yet if we export schema + data).

The postgreSQL release used is 7.3.4. We would like to dump the objects for
particular user. How? I used -U option, the result still dump all the objects
with all the users.
In order to migrate to 7.4, if the users were not created in 7.4 the pg_dump
result will fail or create under wrong user. How to prevent this?
What is different between pg_restore and psql if restore the pg_dump result? I
tried to use pg_restore, but it always...

We are seeing what looks like pgsql data file corruption across multiple

Hi!
Have a problem, probably easy to solve... I want to dump a database
which resides on my local server with another, and not existing, owner
than the one who actually owns it locally.
The beginning of the dump file looks like:
########
\connect - postgres

I have a database in pgsql (7.3.2) on redhat 9.
When I try a 'pg_dump mydb' to back up the database, I get:
pg_dump: could not find namespace with OID 2200
Verbose version is:
-bash-2.05b$ pg_dump -v mydb | more
pg_dump: saving database definition
pg_dump: reading namespaces
pg_dump: reading user-defined types

I think this is a suggestion/comment!
pg_dump man page:
--schema-only
Dump only the schema (data definitions), no data
I think this use of the word schema is confusing, meaning data
definitions, whereas elsewhere in the man page schema are used as a
namespace definition.

Hi All,
I'd like to dump out my database using plain text format. Everything is ok,
but the bytea filds.
Restoring the dump file (using <<psql -f LO_TRY_INSERT_BYTEA.sql tmp7>>) it
sends an error message like
psql:LO_TRY_INSERT_BYTEA.sql:14: ERROR: Bad input string for type bytea
Trying dumping with copy commands it sends this error:
psql:LO_TRY_COPY_BYTEA.sql:13: lost synchronization with server, resetting

I have a database in which there is a user and their search path is set to:
dbmirror, public, pg_catalog
pg_dumpall includes this line in the dump:
ALTER USER dbmirror SET search_path TO 'dbmirror, public, pg_catalog';
This isn't correct though, because when it is run through psql to load
the user, I get the following:

Dear Sirs,
I want to dump all databases, but separately each database in its own
file, not all databases in one single file as pg_dumpall does.
How can I implement that ?
Cheers,

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
