The /contrib module fuzzystrmatch has a soundex() function. I
haven't used it though...

Where did you find documentation on a "soundex" operator?

Hi Vinary,

One way to implement tolerant search algorithms is to use the soundex algorithm for PostgreSQL, which can be found in the contributed directory of the PostgreSQL source tree.

try SELECT * FROM student WHERE soundex(name)=s oundex('vinay') ;

see http://www.samspublishing.com/articl...le.asp?p=24691

Good luck

I've been bad about documentation so far but I'm going to try to be better. I've mostly worked alone so I'm the only one, so far, who's suffered from my bad habits. But I'd like other programmers to have an easier time understanding what I do. Therefore this weekend I'm going to spend 3 days just writing comments. Before I do it, I thought I'd ask other programmers what information they find useful. Below is a typical class I've...

Hi, I'm curious about soundex. All I know that it's a way for making spelling- error-tolerant word matching. What I want to know is whether the soundex algorithm are made exclusively for english language, or can it be used for any arbitrary language with satisfactory performance (by 'satisfactory performance' I meant that it can detect at least 80% spelling-errors). What about PHP soundex support? TIA

Hi I'm using SOUNDEX mysql function to find similar sounding names from a table with 2 million distinct names. Unfortunately there is a single soundex code for every 200,000 names! Meaning there are only 200,000 distinct codes for 2 million entries. Is there any other function / library / technique to work around this immense 1:10 redundancy ? for example, soundex for 'avis', 'apex' and 'apps' is A120, but I'd

Hi All, how can I improve the query performance in the following situation: I have a big (4.5+ million rows) table. One query takes approx. 9 sec to finish resulting ~10000 rows. But if I run simultaneously 4 similar queries it takes nearly 5 minutes instead of 4 times 9 seconds or something near of that. here is a sample query: select mertido, fomeazon, ertektipus, mertertek from t_me30 where fomeazon in (select distinct fomeazon...

Hi All, I have database with names on which I want to use the soundex option. So I have created two seperate fields for the Lastname and Firstname in which I save the Soundex version of a new name I save in the database. I have the soundex code with the 6 numeric option. So I save for example in the field LastnameSE = 600192 and in the FirstnameSE = 545910.

Just wondering if anyone out in query-land has used "Soundex" or "Difference" before to find field values that "sound the same". Similar to LIKE but very different. I was shocked when I heard about it, so I've been playing around. Access doesn't seem to like it. Am I just incompetant? Thanks - LB (me using Northwind to goof around with) qrySoundexPlaying: SELECT Customers.* FROM Customers

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
