I've got a 2 hour index build that has been running for 9 hours. With 'ps
-efl' I see that there is a VACUUM ANALYZE running that started 24 hours ago
and my index build is 'wating'. I sent a SIGINT to postmaster and it kicked
all sessions out, but the VACUUM is still running so postmaster won't shut
down.
How do I safely kill this thing so I can get restart postmaster and my index
build?

I am normally the admin for our PostgreSQL servers, but someone else tried
to kill a runaway query while I was out sick. Unfortunately, he tried
killing the runaway query by killing the postmaster. Now we are dealing
with a persistent problem that just won't go away.
1) Spontaneous back end deaths.
2) Spontaneous backend disconnects (which are probably because of 1).
3) pg_clog files disappearing.
The first symptom of the problem...

Hi all,
if I accidentally use a TAKEOVER command with BY FORCE clause while
primary and standby are in peer state I'll end up with two primary's
(at least with FP10 and Windows). Is this works as designed or a bug ?
Manuals say that the standby will inform the primary about the takeover
but will not wait for acknowledgement, so the primary knows about whats
going on. In my eyes primary should either switch to standby or
shutdown...

I'm confused about the proper way to shut down my application.
I have a form which instantiates a control, which instantiates another
control, which instantiates yet another control that runs a time-
consuming loop. I put Application.DoEvents() into the loop so the user
can continue to work on the form while the loop is running. Everything
works great until the user wants to exit the application. The
application will not close until the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
