How can I hide all details from users regarding data and structure,
limiting access to data through functions I create?
I don't want a user to be able to see the structure of a table with \d
{tablename} in psql.

Don't give them any direct access to the tables and use a security definer
function to give them indirect access.

I made a mistake. The above only limits access to the data. You can't
limit access to the structure while allowing direct access to the database.
You will need to create a proxy application/server if you want to do this.

If we can limit select privilege, can't we do so on the system tables
that hold metadata? Isn't that what's accessed when a user enters \d
{tablename} ? br***@wolff.to (Bruno Wolff III) wrote in message news:<20******* ***********@wol ff.to>... I have the following at the beginning of the PHP page:
<?php require_once('Connections/conn.php'); ?>
I want to hide the connection file, "conn.php", so it's out of the web
accessible file structure. I understand putting them in the php include
directory shoudl do this. For example, let's say the directory I put them
in is /www/phpIN/, and /www/ht/ is the root web directory.
So I put "conn.php" in the inlcude directory...

Hi everyone, I have a stored procedure which I use to query a table.
The first part of the stored procedure uses a cursor to update a temp table
whilst the second part of the query actually retrieves information from a
database table utilising information based on the temp table.
My problem is that when I run the procedure, the cursors status is output
and therefore becomes part of the result set. I really only want the
information...

Hi People,
How do you go about hiding the database window. The reason for doing
this is that sometimes have to manually add data to tables. I have a
fully interatctive menu system from which you can show the 'database
window', the same button that you have to press to show the database
window opens a small modal form which has one button which will return
you to the menu system, but I also want it to close the database
window!

I have a few tables with sensitive user information (passwords, etc.)
and I would like to prevent someone from opening a blank database and
importing those tables.
Is there a way to "hide" or protect these tables from being linked or
imported?
TIA

Is there a straightfoward API in .NET that allows for inspection of a
database? That is, to look at the structure of the database, without
knowing anything in advance about it? For example, retrieving a list of
tables in the database.
Doing a little browsing in MSDN, I see that the abstract representation of
a database appears to be the DataSet class. I also see that I can use
"data adapter" classes (e.g. OdbcDataAdapter) to connect a...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
