Sort order is different on Windows and Linux

I have found that the sort order is different on Windows and Linux (same version of Postgres). On Windows, it sorts in what appears to be normal ASCIIorder. On Linux, lowercase comes before uppercase, and all non-alphanumerics appear to come before all alphanumerics. I really need it to sort on Linux the same as it does on Windows. The docs seem to imply that I can simplyset the LANG environment variable to C to get an ASCII sort order, but that seem to make a difference. How do I change the sort order?

Thanks in advance.

Robert

You need to have the database initdb'd with the appropriate collation set
in LC_COLLATE. Changing LANG/LC_COLLATE after the fact won't help (in
recent versions anyway).

TIP 7: don't forget to increase your free space map settings

Do I simply "export LC_COLLATE=C" before I initdb, or do I pass it as a
parameter?

I have a scheduled job that uses different XSL templates to transform XML and save it to disk. I am having problems with the code below. The problem shows up on both my development machine (Windows XP Pro SP 1, .Net Framework 1.1) and on our production server (Windows 2K SP 4, .Net Framework 1.1). I have simplified the code and data to isolate the problem. When I use the xsl:strip-space (Line 12) declaration in conjunction with the xsl:sort...

Hi The question why are there no sorted dictionaries in python, seems to pop up with unseeming regularity. That question in itself in nonsensical sense dictionaries are hash-maps, however should python have a sorted map type object is a good question. clearly many people like have a sorted map, and sorting the keys every time seems rather wasteful, as does keeping a separate sorted list of the keys.

I need to extract records from a database subject to conditions and only thereafter give the users the choice of which fields to sort the results on. In this situation I can't write back to a temporary file and then select all from that file on the different sort orderings. I figured that the only way out would be to write to an array from the first recordset set creation. Then write the report to the screen from the array and users...

Greetings, For user actions on a wxWidget that trigger multiple events for that wxWidget, is the order those events are processed in undefined, and therefore arbitrary from one platform (ie Windows) to the next (ie Linux)? Specifically, I have a convience aggregate class that combines a wxStaticText with a wxComboBox, as I often need those two at the same time. The aggregate catches events from the wxComboBox

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
