Need a bit of help with MySQL

No
I have tried to understand MySQL and am afraid it is way over my head, Would
someone be willing to help me out please?

I have a php script that I am trying to install, in the instructions it
says

" You should have empty MySQL database created (create MySQL database if
not)"

on my hosting server I have MySQL version 3.23.56 and it also has "Schema
Browser"
Can someone walk me thru creating the database I need..

Thank you in advance

on linux/unix:

$ mysqladmin create <name of database>

I guess that this command is also available on Windows, try to look in the bin\
directory of your mysql-installation (c:\program files\mysql\bin \).

I'm only answering this post because it is so stupid and I am bored....

Have you seen how many posts in "This group" have something to do with MySQL
??

Have you ever noticed how php and MySQL kinda go together.

People who know php most times also know MySQL, Thus beings that groups are
help forums.. it makes sence to most.

You ? I don't can make sence of it cause you are a moron....

Heh.. pot.. kettle.... ;)

Is it _really_ that difficult to see that this group doesn't have
'sql' in the name? yet others do?

Square plug / round hole syndrome.

SQL and database questions _where they involve interaction with PHP_ are
explicitly on-topic for this newsgroup according to the charter.

However, how to set up a database from scratch isn't, which is probably what
you were trying to say.

And as is typical for off-topic to semi-off-topic questions, better
answers will be received in the correct newsgroup. comp.databases is a
logical choice when designing a database scheme, as opposed to
implementation difficulties with PHP/MySQL.

Yes.

Of course, but this wasn't part of your query was it?

You don't understand the difference do you?

If you build a PC.. and plan on installing windoze.. and you have a
problem during build.. are you going to contact micro$oft for help
because their OS is going to run on this box you're having problems
building? My guess is no.. and I'm sure you wouldn't get a reply from
M$ if you did. The PC and operating system invariably go together,
but the OS is not part of the build, thus, a seperate issue. If the
OS has an issue running on that built box after, then feel free to
mail M$ support and I'm sure they'd help you in resolving your OS
running issue.

Ian

Indeed Andy, I wouldn't expect anything else.. 99% of the time, they
go hand in hand... OTOH...

....you hit the nail on the head =)

I didn't realise I had to spell it out word for word for the OP =(

I learned MySQL last year without putting it into action; that is why I face trouble in formulating my queries. Were it a test, then you would have passed it, because your queries did help me solve my problem. I'll turn to MySQL doc after getting through this pressing project. Thanks a lot Roger! OK, I'm officially frustrated. I had MySQL 4.0.18 running as a service on my WinXP laptop, along with MySQLAdministrator, and a new tool, DB Designer. Everything was working fine, and I was able to do a good test. Then I wanted to upgrade to MySQL 5.0. I completely uninstalled everything with the "Add/Remove Programs" utility in the Control Panel. I re-installed MySQL 5.0. I started it as a service, and I was able to
