Hi All
Beginner question - please be patient with me :-) I am new to c#.
If one creates a child modal (and also non-modal) form what is the
best way of returning the collected data back to the calling form?
For example, say off of my main form I launch a modal dialog box that
gets the username and password what is the best way of passing that
data back? The info has to go into an object eventually so I can

http://www.JavascriptToolbox.com/bestpractices/
I started writing this up as a guide for some people who were looking for
general tips on how to do things the 'right way' with Javascript. Their code
was littered with document.all and eval, for example, and I wanted to create
a practical list of best practices that they could easily put to use.
The above URL is version 1.0 (draft) that resulted. IMO, it is not a
replacement for the FAQ,...

Hello
I am trying to run a few INSERT queries only if the user clicks 'continue'
in a <a href> The queries takes variables created from SELECT queries. I
have tried to acheive this by putting The INSERT queries into a function at
the top of my php file and having the SELECT queries below it. I have a
message that pops up that includes a link to the function but I cant get
this to work and am not sure of the best approach. Can anyone help?...

I am writing an application with a form that once started will run for
several minutes(an import). I would like the progress bar on the form to
update with the progress of the import. I would also like to be able to
minimize the form or move it around while the process is running.
I am guessing the best way to do this is with a seperate process that has an
event to fire off to the form when the progress bar update needs to happen?!
any...

I have a simple csharp form with a 'Go' button on it. This event
launches a external exe successfully but the form color becomes white
and does not repaint while that external program runs, usually about 10
seconds.
I tried creating a thread in seperate class to run that process instead
on running it from main thread. This successfully keeps my form from
becoming distorted. However, I do not have any control over when that
thread...

What is the best way to check whether the page is simply a postback or the
form has been submit with the intention of doing something?
In the olden days, I used to check for a form field name used for the submit
button:
<input type="submit" name="saverecord" value="push me to save">
Then I'd retrieve it using something like:

Okay, this should be pretty simple for those of you who have written several
enterprise level web applications:
I'm looking for simple concepts to deal with a client re-posting the same
data over and over. IE: Adding a comment to a record, adding an item to a
cart etc. (hitting the refresh button over and over re-posting the old values)
I’m looking for a solution a little more elegant than comparing data values
etc. I would rather...

I am creating an aspx process to read rows from a table, display specific
fields, wait for the administrator (the only user of this process) to decide
what action to take based on the data and then delete the row and move on to
the next one. Each row in that table represents a request by a user for a
change to their subscription status (change address, new request, delete
etc.). The administrator usually takes less than a minute to decide...

I'm trying to implement a simple server-side form validation (No
Javascript). If the user submits a form with errors, I want to
redisplay the same form with the errors highlighted. Once the form is
correct I need to submit to another page that uses the form data.
I first tried making the form submit action= field point to the same
file. When the form was correct, I tried loading the next page by using
<META http-equiv refresh>. But...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
