PHP Query for Multiple Database Tables

1 New Member
I've been trying to figure this out for hours, but it seems so simple--that's why I'm so frustrated. I have three tables (newsarticles, sportsarticles, opinionarticles ) with identical structures in a database and a search query on my website that, at this point, can search through only the "newsarticl es" table. The code for the working search of the "newsarticl es" table is shows below:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. SELECT * FROM newsarticles WHERE newsarticles.text LIKE %s  OR newsarticles.title LIKE %s OR newsarticles.author LIKE %s
I want to be able to use the search query to return a single recordset of results that includes results from all three tables. Some possible solutions I have found are the "JOIN" and "UNION" SQL commands. I am not sure if either will work, or if either is correct to use in this case. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I'm guessing that you want to serach the tables that have a certain keyword stored in them, am I right?

In that case you need to look at the "JOIN" or "UNOIN" a bit more.

I think you'll merge your tables by selecting something from every table if they have a matching keyword or criteria.

Hope I wasn't to far off.

Cheers

Hi, I am new to mysql and need help on how to join tables. I have a database which contains 4 tables, the main table contains information by date order and the other 3 contain data also in date order. So I need to write a query that retrieves all the information for one record, lets say I want to query on the main table any entry that is for the 2004-01-06 and this date is also in a field called 'Date' in the other tables, how do I go...

Could someone help me by answering the questions below? What's a cursor? What's difference between Query and View? Is a RecordSet just part of a table? Can it be part of a query of view? If the content in a table changed, is it necessary for a old recordset to renew itself by do "Requery()"? Thanks for your help!

If I release a new version of my mbd (in mde format) and users want to upgrade - how do they migrate their data? For example, if the original was released as data1.mde and then I release data2.mde (same table/data structures - just revised VBA code with perhaps a new/updated form or two), what's the best way for users to get their data into the new data2.mde? I'm thinking I could use a query - something like:

I'm not sure there's an easy solution to this, but thought I'd ask. I often find myself with a query which I'd like to reuse, but with a different datasource. These datasources generally have identical field names. The queries select a subset of the fields, so "Select *" is not really an option. Is there an easy way to change the source of a query, either in the design grid or SQL display? I suppose I could copy the SQL into WordPad...

I've got a database with about 300,000 records. There are several different tables that are set up the same way with identical fields. I have the same queries individually set up for each table. Is there a way to just set the query once and then run it across several tables or tell the query which table to run it on. Some of the queries are just select queries, some are append, and some are update. Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to design contact (names and addresses) tables in an Access database. Some of the contacts represent vendors, some are board members of the organization, some are donors, some are neighbors of the organization, some are politicians, etc. Rather than create separate tables for each type of contact, I thought it would be better to have: one table with names/addresses one table with kinds of lists (vendors, board...

Hi. I am trying to select data from two separate MySQL tables, where I cannot use join, but when I put the two select queries into a single query, I get an error telling me to check my syntax. Both of the queries work fine when I use them to query the MySQL server directly. My guess is that the MySQL extension only expects a single resource back from the database, but get's several, or that it just checks the statement first, and decides...

I have a database with two tables I use for shipping information. One is for if I'm only shipping one item and the other is for a back page of a report for when I ship multiple items. If I'm shipping multiple items, I put SEE REVERSE in the single item block and then enter the rest in a subform linked to the multiple item table. I'm trying to generate a report that lists all items shipped using a tracking number, but when I create a query, I...

Hi all, I am relatively new to ADO, but up to now I got things working the way I wanted. But now I've run into somethng really annoying. I am working in MS Access. I am using an Access frontend separately from a backend. The tables from the backend database are linked in the frontend database. In the frontend there is a Form with a listbox in it. The listbox rowsource is a query that selects all the records from a (linked)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
