Make wikis for multiple people on one site

170 New Member
I have a website hosted on my server at work. I am thinking of setting up a fairly simple wiki on the site. However, I'd like to make it so that each of around 100 people (students in a school) can login and create their own wiki. So technically I guess it wouldn't be a wiki, as I only really want each student to contribute to their own wiki. But hopefully what I want to do makes sense. Could someone point me in the direction of either some good (free) code designed for this, or else some pointers for the steps I'd need to take to set it up myself.

Many thanks

Um, well neither really. What I want is to make it possible for a person to easily add information, definitions, etc to their own "site"/"wiki"/whatever. For a new entry, they should be able to specify things like the category, the title, the description, a field they select perhaps for understood/still to learn, and then when they enter it the current date should be added. This piece of information is then added to all the others on that person's area. All information should be editable/deletable by that person.

And I need to repeat that for 100-150 people (who will each be able to log in and access only their own information), on the one site.

As I write this, it occurs to me that probably a script sending the information to a mysql table will work fine. I suppose I was thinking that if I had one wiki per person, that would accomplish the same thing. But perhaps it's overkill.

Does this make more sense? What do you think?

beary, This is Huge. IMHO I'm not a great developer, sure It will take at least 3 months to make such a application tool.(Basic One) By going through your points, what I can say, It's better to use a Bulletin Board Tool Like in this board, Sure It will handle your requirement. There are so many high end, Free to use applications for this. phpbb is nice one among them. and free. anyway don't depend on my suggestions, let others to find this thread.

Hi all, We've been having a discussion over on the wxPython-users mailing list about how to deal with multiple versions of wxPython. During the discussion it came up that this isn't a problem faced only by wxPython, but would have to be dealt with by virtually all packages. The root of the problem is what to do when you install a new version of wxPython, and want to be able to keep using the old one. This question comes up frequently...

On my web page, I have a few hyperlinks with target frame of _blank. The hyperlink brings up a second window, but everytime I click on thie hperlink, it keeps bringing up a new window and not defaulting the the first active window. How do I make a hyperlink point to the active window? I don not want the hyperlink to default to the same page. I do want a second window but only a second window and not multiple pages.

Having just answered a question about multiple linked stylesheets, I thought I'd have a look at browser support. There's a quick test page here: http://www.porjes.com/ms/ I wrote it according to my understanding of: http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/present/styles.html#h-14.3.2

I have seen many posts of people with the same problem as me (attached below), but I have yet to see any solutions posted. Has anyone figured out how to deploy an Asp.net web site to the webserver in any place other than the default website? I do not want to install it there as our IIS has multiple websites, but nowhere is there an option when creating the install package in Visual Studio to specify what website on the server you want to...

Hi, I am working on an eCommerce site, and the home page is split into multiple sections (user controls), whose data is provided from the database. Potentially this page will be cached, but its not a user story yet, but I am still curious to know how people might render the page on the server, without having each user control issue its own database read query to get its own data. Are there best practices for this type of thing these...

Hello, I would like to build a website using ASP.NET. I would like website visitors to be able to download code that I would like to make available to them and that would be residing on my personal server. Are there any code samples or books that someone can recommend so that I can implement this. I would prefer VB.NET code, but I am willing to convert from C# if necessary.

Ever since I found out that they didn't give us a way to install both IE6 and IE7 on the same machine, I have been more frustrated and annoyed with Microsoft than I ever have been with any company (and for someone who has loved Microsoft as much as me, that takes something pretty bad!). I am a web developer, and only have access to one computer, which makes it hard to test for both IE6 and IE7. But even for people that have access to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
