Perhaps it would be interesting to program a virtual machine simulating
an ancient computer (such as the pdp-7). Then, it would be rather
interesting to code for it (porting gcc to it maybe?). I think it would
be fun to play with the long-forgotten art of coding in machine language.
And what about a fictional computer, such as one that works on an
entirely different way (such as a non-binary computer)?
It wouldn't be very useful, but...

I have started doing the following to watch for exceptions in wxPython.
I'd like any input about (A) the interface, and (B) the frame before I
throw it in the recipes book.
import wx, os, sys
errorframe = None
def watcherrors(function):
'''function decorator to display Exception information.'''
def substitute(*args, **kwargs):

You guys ever notice that many websites have forums that look like
they're using the same software from the same company. For example,
look at these 2 different sites, yet the same type of forum.
http://www.fansofrealitytv.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=75
http://www.digitalweddingforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=4
Do many firms buy the same software for their biz from some common
vendor. The reason i ask is that i am not...

Hi,
I'm developing an application that will support several thousand
simultaneous connections on the server-side. I'm trying to maximize
throughput. The client (WinForms) and server communicate via a socket
connection (no remoting, no ASP.NET). The client sends a message to the
server that contains some instructions and the server responds in an
asynchronous fashion. In other words, the client doesn't block while waiting
for the...

I ran into an interesting re-pain delay after calling the Abort() method on
a thread, but it only happens the very first time I call it. Every time
afterward, there is no delay.
I've got a delegate inside the UI that I call to update the progress meter.
I use the Suspend() and Abort() methods based on button events.
I can watch the progress meter increase just fine when the thread is
running. When I select Start, I enable the Cancel...

An interesting/annoying problem.
I created a small example to provoke an exception I keep getting.
Basically I have a C-struct (Container) with a function-pointer in it.
I perform repeated calls to the function in the container. I allocate
(and free in c) arrays to get garbage collection in both C and C#.
After a few seconds I get an exception.
I assume GarbageCollector moves the delegate (or collects is) and when
I don't find it in C...

Getting into AJAX using the XMLHttp object and am really liking it.
We are in the process of upgrading our existing behavior calls
(webservice.htc) to the more 'supported', as they say, concept of
AJAX. One thing I noticed was that the .htc code practically does the
same thing AJAX does - with nice code that allows you to .value
reference the return XML nice and easily - and now I'm wondering why I
should even bother trying to reinvent...

Buffer overflows are a fact of life, and, more specifically, a fact of
C.
All is not lost however. In the book
"Value Range Analysis of C programs" Axel Simon tries to establish a
theoretical framework for analyzing C programs. In contrast to other
books where the actual technical difficulties are "abstracted away",
this books tries to analyze real C programs taking into account
pointers, stack frames, etc.

To further follow up on my last post regarding the docmd.quit vs.
Application.quit using access 2007, I noticed that docmd.quit will correctly
compact the database (program file) if you have the "Compact on Close"
option set for the current database.
However, even with Compact on Close set, if you use the Application.Quit
acQuitSaveNone, the compacting will not fire.
This behavior actually seems desirable, as you can now make a program...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
