retrieve web page

Hi,

I'm having problems retrieving the contents of an external web page.
When I open this page on my computer, I get some results:

http://www.algaebase.org/Distributio...1179jMy1D3B122

However, when I try to retrieve this page with fopen(), I get an
AlgaeBase page saying "Sorry, no records were found with your search
parameters." Does anyone have any idea why this is and what I can do
about it?

Thanks
Piet

Remark: this url is read from a textfile which contains a list with
urls. When I used the url directly without reading it from the file,
everything works fine. Could it be that the url read from the file
contains hard returns etc which are causing the problem? What can I do
about that?

Thanks

My contribution to the comp.lang.php FAQ: ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How do I retrieve a page from a web site? A: Pass a URL to file() or file_get_contents(). The former returns the contents as an array of lines. The latter returns the same as string. Example: $html = file_get_contents("http://www.cnn.com");

Some sites seem to be session driven in the sense that if I visit the homepage and do a few clicks I can navigate anywhere I want, but if I paste the current location into a new browser window after having navigated to some page, it doesn't work. It just returns to the start page or says "timeout" etc. This means that I can't read these pages from PHP with $string = file_get_contents('http://some.url/blah/deep/link');

I then need to retrieve the value from a TextBox control and I want to compare it against the control's previous value to see if it has changed. How can I retrieve a control's previous value from the ViewState? I know that I could save the control's previous value in a session variable, reretrieve it's value from the db, etc. But it would appear the control's previous value...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
