automatically fill and validate form

Hello,
I have a small problem in PHP an perhaps someone can help me:

I have a simple HTML login page with a username and a password field,
as well as a submit button, which I have to use for login(I cannot
simply replace it by a php-page :-().

is it possible to call this page via a hyperlink from a php-script and
to directly fill the username and password fields as well to raise the
event of clicking the submit button.
Goal is that I when click the hyperlink on the php-script, the
HTML-login form is automatically filled and the login is done
automatically without having to click on the submit-button.

Is this possible?

Thanx in advance

If you need to send some variables holding a username
and a password somewhere, and you don't want to have
to fill them in, then don't Simply send the variables
directly to the destination.

I may have misunderstood what you ment though, so I'm
not sure my answer is accurate in regard to your question.

If I don't misunderstand your question, that's a task I use to solve
with the HTTP_Client package from PEAR for this task.

You can use javascript to capture the location.search part of the url
where you would pass in the username and password.

Use the javascript variables to fill in your html form textboxes (username &
password).

Use a javascript function form.submit(); to automatically submit the form to
the proper
action string.
