I'm trying to understand sessions and authentication.
I gathered that the only way of preserving data across script
invocations was to use a session. However I note that
$_SERVER and $_SERVER are also preserved
across invocations and even from one script to another. How does this
work? (Are they repeatedly sent from the browser every time? If so, what
stops a site author from collecting a user name and password originally
entered for...

Hi all,
I am pretty new to PHP. I was reading PHP manual and trying out the
example from 2nd
chapter (A simple Tutorial). When i try to print the variable as
given in the example it returns
a empty value instead of returning the browser type.
Here is the line which i am using in my code and from manual:
<?php echo $_SERVER; ?>

I have a page that I don't want anyone to be able to link directly to. The
page should only be accessed from gatepage.php. I tried this code, but keep
getting errors - "header info already sent", or something like that... Am I
missing something, or is there a better way to do this?
<?php
$ref = $_SERVER;
//echo $ref;
if ( $ref == 'http://www.mydomain.com/gatepage.php' )

I have read quite a few articles on "fingerprinting" a user when they
start a session. Chris Shiflett has a good article here:
http://shiflett.org/articles/the-truth-about-sessions
However, this part of his (and all the other similar articles) doesn't
make sense to me.
session_start();
$fingerprint = 'SECRETSTUFF' . $_SERVER;

I looked up System.getProperties, but to be honest, I have no clue how
to use it in light of what I can do in PHP, which is this:
<?php echo $_SERVER . ' ' . $_SERVER;
?>
it would be very nice to find the JSP equivalent of <? phpinfo(); ?>
(anyone know who knows both PHP and JSP?) but until then, what on earth
do I do?

I have this code from someone else, and I'm trying to make heads or
tails of it because IE doesn't like it. Can anyone help? Or does
anyone have a better idea?
/* parse the email to check for valid form */
function parseemail(str)
{
str = trim(str);
<?if(preg_match("/MSIE 5.0;/", $_SERVER)) // this
is IE 5.0

Hallo,
I am developing a site, and here whats the problem is: how to
partition the code, i.e. if I developed 1000 lines of code, in that I
want to show first 200 lines only if the user opens my website using
IE, and next 200 lines in Firefox, and remaining lines in another
browsers.
Here am asking that how to compatible the total code depending upon
the browsers used by users.

Hello,
I keep reading that $_SERVER can easily be faked. Is
that true of all server variables, or just some of them? In
particular, I'm wondering if server_port can be faked.
I'm interested right now because I want to detect whether the current
page request is using http or https. I realize there are other ways
to ensure the correct delivery of pages over https using directory
management and htaccess, but I also want to understand...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
