pear automatically crashing

Hi there,

I've got a severe problem with pear when trying to install pdflib.

First pear demanded a program named phpize. After searching a while
I found that phpize is part of php-devel while pear is part of the
php package itself. Maybe that should be changed as it makes absolutely
no sense having pear without phpize.

Now after installing php-devel pear still fails, now stating:

running: phpize
/usr/share/aclocal/smpeg.m4:13: warning: underquoted definition of
AM_PATH_SMPEG
run info '(automake)Exte nding aclocal'
or see http://sources.redhat.com/automake/a...ending-aclocal
Configuring for:
PHP Api Version: 20020918
Zend Module Api No: 20020429
Zend Extension Api No: 20021010
`phpize' failed

and after temporarily moving smpeg.m4 from aclocal still:

downloading pdflib-2.0.4.tgz ...
Starting to download pdflib-2.0.4.tgz (36,082 bytes)
...........done : 36,082 bytes
7 source files, building
running: phpize
Configuring for:
PHP Api Version: 20020918
Zend Module Api No: 20020429
Zend Extension Api No: 20021010
`phpize' failed

just 'failed' with no further hints!
But having a look at the phpize script, it must obviously have run
without errors as the last lines go:

# dumping API NOs:
PHP_API_VERSION =`egrep '#define PHP_API_VERSION '
$includedir/main/php.h|sed 's/#define PHP_API_VERSION//'`
ZEND_MODULE_API _NO=`egrep '#define ZEND_MODULE_API _NO'
$includedir/Zend/zend_modules.h| sed 's/#define ZEND_MODULE_API _NO//'`
ZEND_EXTENSION_ API_NO=`egrep '#define ZEND_EXTENSION_ API_NO'
$includedir/Zend/zend_extensions .h|sed 's/#define ZEND_EXTENSION_ API_NO//'`

echo "Configurin g for:"
echo " PHP Api Version: "$PHP_API_VERSI ON
echo " Zend Module Api No: "$ZEND_MODULE_A PI_NO
echo " Zend Extension Api No: "$ZEND_EXTENSIO N_API_NO

exit 0

What could pear have made fail like that?
any suggestions?
TIA,

Robert

Greetings: Crack open the beer, PEAR DB 1.6.0 is here! (Hey, I'm a bit giddy with excitement that my intense work during the past seven weeks has come to fruition.) For those unfamiliar with PEAR DB, it's a package of PHP classes that provide an object oriented API with common methods of accessing thirteen of PHP's database driver extensions: dBase, FrontBase, InterBase, Informix, mSQL, MS SQL Server,

I'm having a problem installing php. The compile seems to go fine, but when it gets to the install step I get the following errors. Does anyone have an idea of what might be the problem? We build our applications under three different environments (Linux i686, Linux x86_64, Solaris 8 Sparc). This is the first of the three on a RHEL 3 system using the current stable versions of the GNU toolchain in a segregated environment. Basically...

On the PEAR site, the page for each package lists other packages that are dependent on it. That's nice, but is there way to determine which other packages the package itself depends on? It seems to me that would be much more useful information. So far, the only way I can see is to load the package, see what require()s fail, then try to figure out which packages those files belong to. Surely there's a better way? -- Alan Little Phorm...

I remember having problems with pear when I first installed it but got it running some time ago. This is on a windoze XP SP OS. I did not think it was correct because it pointed to "C\php\pear\PEAR". I writing a pear front-end GUI and I want to have it installed correctly. It seemed to have some duplication of directories between the lower and upper cased pear dir names. Should there be a "php\pear\PEAR" subdirectory? I thought it should...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
