Hi,
I'm trying to get a version of MySQL 4.1.0 installed on my (Gentoo Linux)
machine. I have a copy of MySQL 4.0.13 already installed, using Gentoo's
ebuilds, but am trying to install 4.1.0 in a side-by-side configuration.
(Into /usr/local/mysql_alpha, talking to port 3300) - So I can run 4.0 as my
"production" server, and muck about with 4.1.0 while I'm testing out the new
features.
I'm compiling it from source. Here is what I used...

I have a dedicated server running 'FreeBSD 4.9 STABLE' at a hosting
site. They have done some default installations, presumably from the CVS
ports package ??. Herein lies the problem, "I do not know" what they
have done!
At first it was apparent that MySQL was installed
mysql_install_db ; GRANT TABLES etc. ???
so I ran "mysql_install_db --force"

I have made several website using MS Access and asp. Now I need to upgrade
from Accesss to MYSQL -
I got my website working with MYSQL on my local PC - but now the problem is
how I get it working on my webhost . I have the right connecting string (
according to webhotels supporter) but how do I transfer my SQL database from
local pc to server..?? With MS Access it was very straight forward - I just
uploaded my .MDB file to my DB folder...

put it up on an ftp sight so that multiple people could access the same
tables at the same time from different geographical locations. I have been
completely unsucessful in acheiving this goal so far however.

I've been having a very rough time installinig mySQL on Linux. I have

Everytime I get to #./configure it goes through all of the preparing
tables and starting mysqlServer and daemon, but than immediaetly says
"mysql ended" -- I try to do #make right after anyway, but I get the

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
