Access ---> Perl ----> HTML

76 New Member
I'm am completely new to the world of Perl. It looks like a cross between C and linux scripting. I have some experience in both linux and C, but I'm using perl to query an Access database and post that data on a website; all in the windows environment. My goal is to create a calender that shows lead times and a schedule for completion dates. Maybe a search funtion as well. Access datapages just don't do it for me.

So basically I'm jumping into perl cgi scripting and xhtml web page creation.
Using perl to query the DB seems pretty straight forward. I've got perl installed with the ODBC module for access and I can get some pretty basic queries out of it. My questions arise when I try to put the queried data into a web page.

I'm in way over my head, but that is were I learn best:)

Can anyone recommend a good book to get or maybe an online tutorial that I haven't read yet.

Thanks,
James

If you are outputting data to a webpage, you basically are using a CGI script. Perl comes with the CGI module which is often used for CGI
scripts. See link below.

Hi, having been a Perl fan for years I have nearly converted to Python. Still, there are LOTS and very good modules written in Perl. Is there a tool to lesson the burdon of translation of Perl to Python? I am completely aware of the fact that a fully automatic translation to readable Python source is hard if not impossible. But such a tool could lots of the tedious work like replacing braces by proper indentation and and similar things.

Environment: Classic ASP running on IIS v5.1 Scripting Language: VBScript I suppose someone would have to be somewhat familiar with Perl in order to answer this question specifically. If you are not intimately familiar with Perl, then perhaps you can still help by reading through the lines here... I'm looking for a templating system in a Classic ASP environment that works like HTML::Template in Perl. I've actually used HTML::Template

I've recently added form functionality on my website, which runs with the aid of a perl script and sends the results via an email message. I'm currently able to import, or link, data from a specific mail folder (Outlook 2002) to an MS Access database (Access 2002). However, my problem is the message body, which contains the data I'm interested in, is all placed in the one field. I would like the data contained in the message body to be...

Hi In our web page we use a combination of HTML and server side controls and some of them have a custom attribute based on which we need to find and replace the values once the HTML is ready. For e.g. <LABEL DICTCODE="XYZ">Some text</LABEL> At run time just before the complete HTML is sent to the client-side I want to get hold of the HTML so that I can find and replace all the HTML elements

I have "header.html" used by PERL to construct an entire page. Unfortunately, this header page contains no head or body tags; the script generates them. So I am at a loss as to how I can reference 3 external js files to show a js menu in the header page. Nothing I've tried works and I don't want to monkey with the PERL file. If there is a way to generate the menu, I'd sure appreciate the code because I'm only slightly better at javascript...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
