How to set priority when running process in background

I have two perl processes and I run them using nohup to run in the
background.
However there is a case where the 2nd program run 1st before the 1st
program.
How do I control it to have the 2nd one run after the 1st one?
I need to run them in backgound and if the 1st one failed the 2nd one
will stll be running.

Hello! This is my second post. Ppl really helped me with the first. I hope there are answers for this one as well I own a game company (www.aepoxgames.net) releasing the beta for our first sci-fi space game in about 2 weeks (www.andromedaonline.net) We have multiple servers, but the game engine (Game Server Program) is a Java program (don't ask why) on a windows 2003 enterprise system with dual

Hi All, I was just wondering if it is safe to change thread priorities with thread pool threads (threads used by System.Threading.Timer and those used by the ThreadPool class itself). Say I have a background task that runs periodically (it uses System.Threading.Timer to do this). As the execution speed of this task is not a priority, I want to be able to set the priority of the current thread to the lowest possible. If I use

I'm looking to write a program that operates at the lowest execution priority possible. That is, I want the program to basically run in the background having as little impact on the performance of computer system as possible. The program will do some background backup tasks. I'm reasonably sure that the first step is to create a thread, and to assign the thread the lowest execution priority possible. Are there any other techniques,...

I'm writing my own task manager as I often change process priorities but have gotten myself into trouble on several occasions. I have discovered by keeping csrss.exe and explorer at the equal highest priority, I can keep the computer running ok, or at least recover. So that's what my program does - keeps itself and those programs with high enough priority. It works great when run from visual studio, but as soon as i run it directly (whether in...

Hi, I have a 120M record table that needs to have indexes added as a background process. While running the CREATE INDEX command, which is taking several days, all other SELECT queries on the same machine (on a different database) are slowed dramatically. Is there a way to reduce the CREATE INDEX priority so that other SELECT queries can still function at normal speed?

I'm trying to change my applications priority to something besides the basic highest, above average, etc. I'm developing for an embedded processor (Windows CE 4.2), thus I'm using evc++ in conjunction with vb.net. Now I can make a CeSetThreadPriority call using a C dll (from the VB app), which does allow me to change the process priority to something other than the 'supposed' allowed priorities (which are 251-255 for those who are...

The programming task is to run a simulation model, as a distributed computing model, in the background on 250 departmental computers. I intend to allocate work (per machine) into say "5-10 cpu second units" of repetitive work, stealing CPU cycles when/where I can. I have a service that uses WCF to host a remote object that performs the allocated work. My objective is to have the installed service run in the background and have no...

I have a form which displays a DataGridView table generated with the VS2005 tools. The database is a Pervasive v.9 with an ODBC driver. The DataGridView works great except when I'm done and I click the X to close the form the .exe refuses to die and has to be killed in Task manager. I ran a debug trace and it seems to work fine. I dropped a CLOSE button onto the form and put "this.Close();" in for it's event but I get the same result.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
