Pipng with perl under Windows

I'm trying to run a TCP/IP monitor from a perl program so that I can
open and write to a socket at the same time as moitoring the packets.
I need to run the monitor program and grab its output so I can break
it down and interpret it real-time. Ive read in Perl documentation
that most inter-process communication commands arent implemented in
the Windows ports, but I really need to do a real-time pipe. Are
there any commands in Perl that might help me?

I've read some posts on Perl versus Python and studied a bit of my Python book. I'm a software engineer, familiar with C++ objected oriented development, but have been using Perl because it is great for pattern matching, text processing, and automated testing. Our company is really fixated on risk managnemt and the only way I can do enough testing without working overtime (which some people have ended up doing) is by automating my...

Hello, I have two different scripts that do pretty much the same thing. The main perl script is on Windows. It runs and in the middle of it, it then calls out another perl script that then should run on a Unix box I have. Both scripts run ok, except for the part when Windows try's to call out the Unix script. I have it set up where the Unix is mapped through a drive letter and can drop stuff into the Unix box. It is going through another...

Hi All, How do I determine the path to Perl on a Windows 2000 server? My hosting company has installed ActiveState Perl (latest version). I've called them and they said the path to perl is E:\Perl, however when I enter this into my .cgi file, it spits an error back at me. Any ideas?

All the usual Newbie stuff applies... I have a Windows2000 Server with ActivePerl and a module (DBD-Interbase) that worked fine. Trying to duplicate the environment on Windows2003 Server for future upgrade, and this module won't work (other Perl scripts in IIS6 are OK, just not this Interbase module, which is critical). The error comes from Dynaloader.pm file, which I've read through, and it says that it's a generic message about external...

I am running on windows XP with a fresh install of wamp5 (1.7.2) and mediawiki. I am trying to call a perl function from within php using proc_open. The perl script is being executed and returns a successful exit value, and I can read the results it prints to STDOUT in PHP, but the perl script does not see STDIN from PHP. Since I want to use the perl script as a filter and I don't want to create an intermediary file, this is problematic....

I am a long-time user of Perl who comes to you in peace and is evaluating different scripting languages for use as a scripting platform for system administrators on the Windows platform. Perl already has many modules that allow sys admins and devolpers to do lots of things with the Windows OS, and I'm wondering what the state of the art is with Python and being able to control and administer a windows environment. In this regard, how does...

Hello! I am looking for a good hardcopy Perl book for newbies/beginners (including myself) who use Windows (not UNIX/Linux) and that isn't so old. After talking to my Linux friends who use Perl, they suggested these two: 1. http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781565923249/ (1997 though and mentions Windows NT) 2. http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Perl-3rd-Larry-Wall/dp/0596000278/ref=pd_sim_b_1
