port/protocol for sqlplus connectivity

Hello, We were having trouble connecting to Oracle 8.1.7 running on a
Solaris machine. We assumed this was because a firewall blocked access
to port 1521. When we requested that our IT group open up that port,
we were asked, which protocol, UDP or TCP?

Does protocol matter? What protocol is used when communicating with
Oracle using a tool like sqlplus?

Thanks for any advice, - Dave

If I have a machine with 3 virtual IP addresses (192.168.1.), how can I start 3 instances of the same RMI application (each started with different properties/configs), each listening on the port 1234, but each instance binds to a different ip address. that is to say: instance #1 binds to 192.168.1.5/port 1234 instance #2 binds to 192.168.1.6/port 1234 instance #3 binds to 192.168.1.7/port 1234

I wrote a service that listens for broadcast messages from my firewall (UDP snmp trap messages) and parses and puts the data in an database. I'd also like to write an app that is a simple form that can listen in when it runs (so I can see messages in a form as they occur.) So I need the ability to listen to a UDP port with two apps at the same time (the service and my app). But when I do that I get an error:...

Hi All, I am working on a project regarding the serial COM port. I have to design my own protocol for the serial communication. In the protocol there are some bits for Read/Write, address(bank, offset) and data to be transferred. Would anybody please tell me where I can find the Serial COM port driver, especially the driver that provides the funcation calls/APIs that allow me to call them by using my own protocol? Thanks a lot for

For those who have found it impossible to get help in communicating with Wasp's WDT-2200 Barcode Scanner through a COM Port, except by using their supplied DTComm software, I am presenting what I have found through use of a Protocol Analyzer connected to the COM port, and how I have managed to upload (from Scanner to Computer) a file holding transactions recorded by others using the scanner to "Issue Parts". Quickly though, allow me to note...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
