Help requested ! Protocol Adapters Missing oracle 9i...

Greetings Everyone:

Oracle 9i installed on a sun solaris box. No protocol adapters
available.
I would greatly appreciate any help from the db gurus on this forum.

after bringing up the database, i am using the netca (Oracle Net
Services Configuration assistant). When i try to create a listener and
configure the protocol for that listener, i do not see any available
protocols (the available protocols box is empty!!) but, the selected
protocols box/list shows TCP. so anyway i go ahead and use the TCP to
create a listener. next i select the local net service name
configuration and try to add a net service name, and again the there
are no available protocols to select from.

when i issue a 'adapters' command in the OraHome1 directory i get this
result:

Installed Oracle Net transport protocols are:

IPC
BEQ
TCP/IP
SSL
RAW

Installed Oracle Net naming methods are:

Local Naming (tnsnames.ora)
Oracle Directory Naming
Oracle Host Naming
Oracle Names Server Naming
NIS Naming

and when i issue a 'adapters sqlplus' the result is :

Oracle Net transport protocols linked with sqlplus are:
Oracle Net naming methods linked with sqlplus are:
Although i am very new in this DB admin area, after googling I *think*
that the protocols are installed properly. Can someone please help me
to figure out why the protocols do not show up for selection when i
try to configure a protocol for a listener and again when i try to add
a service name to that listener.

I will greatly appreciate any help/hints/suggestions/advice in this
regard.

I've been doing DBA duties on Solaris for the last 5+ years.
I have NEVER used netca.

I start with a working listener.ora file (as below)
and then modify it as necessary for any new system.

###########
# FILENAME: listener.ora
# SERVICE.: TCP LISTENER
###########
#
LISTENER =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = prod)
(PORT = 1529)
)
)

SID_LIST_LISTEN ER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = MWH)
(ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/7.3.4)
(ENVS='EPC_DISA BLED=TRUE')
)
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = STG)
(ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/7.3.4)
(ENVS='EPC_DISA BLED=TRUE')
)
(SID_DESC =
(ORACLE_HOME= /u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1)
(SID_NAME = WRK)
)
(SID_DESC =
(ORACLE_HOME= /u03/app/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = HDCR)
)
(SID_DESC =
(ORACLE_HOME= /u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1)
(SID_NAME = CTI)
)
)
HTH & YMMV

I am getting a strange symptom: tnsping and sqlplus work fine on my LINUX server (neo) so the listener and DB are OK. However, from my remote XP Client (tank) I get TNS-12560. I can ping the neo from tanks and tank from neo so it isn't a network problem. The trace file shows that in can't start the transport layer due to an error 530: Tns error struct: nr err code: 0 ns main err code: 12560 TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

Good afternoon folks: I am using oracle 9 which is installed in a solaris environment. I am able to startup an idle instance. Next, i use netca to configure a listener. At that time, the "available protocols" box is empty. and selectd protocol has "tcp" already selected. also, while naming the listener, the protocol available box is empty. if somehow i can get to populate the available protocol box then ican

I am fairly new to Oracle in general. One of my customers is asking for a software implementing the Oracle wire-protocol. The idea is: They have a very old Cobol application which cannot be changed anymore. They want to migrate from Oracle to other databases without changing their Cobol software. My idea was: To implement an adapter talking "Oracle". This adapter can then transform the Oracle protocol to something else. My question now...

Hello all, we are running a delphi application with DB2 V8.01 which is causing deadlocks when rows are being inserted into a table. Attaching the Event Monitor Log (DEADLOCKS WITH DETAILS) here. From the log it looks like the problem happens when 2 threads insert 1 record each in the same table and then try to aquire a NS (Next Key Share) lock on the record inserterd by the other thread. Thanks Rohit

Hi, First off, I am aware that this is a very heavily documented error and I have done my homework for throughly researching probable causes before deciding to post my problem here. At this point, I believe another set of eyes on the issue is merited. I am a MSSQL DBA and somewhat new to ORACLE; but I have read the administrators manual having a basic thorough level of knowledge (Tho' I am still learning) and understanding of how to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
