Desperation Post JDev/Applets

(i am posting here out of sheer desperation... perhaps someone could
at least answer me and call me too dumb or something... :}...
I have tried Oracle forums... ect ect... sorry in adavnce)
Hello all..this is driving me crazy... I cant run applets
in IE6.0 using the embedded Oracle 10g server.
here are my peticulars...
- Windows XP no service packs (offline machine)

- jre 1.4.2_03 as my xp java runtime.. I
matched it to the Oracle10g version
(if that even matters...)

- Java plug-in installed... I have tried using
plug in default as well as the 1.4.2_03 runtime

- XP enviornment path variables point to the
java runtime ie .;C:\Program Files\Java\jre1 .4.2_03\bin;

- no classpath currently set... (again I have tried
several times out of desperation pointing to my
user class files.... again not sure if it matters)

- I have employed the html converter on swing applets
with no success

- java console error... (I do see the greyed out applet)
load:class mypackage1.Appl et1 not found
java.lang.Class NotFoundExcepti on:mypackage1.A pplet1
.....
Caused by java io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed
at sun.Applet.Appl etClassLoader.g etBytes(Unknown Source)
.....
(my "Oracle machine" is offline so I will copy entire
message if requested)

- I have tried reinstalling 10G, moving html and class files
into different directories for testing...

- And interestingly enough I have Forte for Java CE on my machine
and I AM able to write and run applets in the same said
machine configuration.. ..

Does this have anything to do with the internal server...
should I "hit the books" and research web severs.. I am
really not happening when it comes to web servers ...
(at this point I am really not sure if I am happening at all...
I am extremely frustrated having spent so much time on this
getting nowhere... all I want to do is put a stupid little
information applet on a JSP page..... haha... I am still smiling)

I have posted before, hopefully without "grovelling " some kind
soul could save my sanity here, goodness knows I have really tried
to do this myself. Any help, suggestions would be really
appreciated.... thx in advance regards D.Moore

I just read something that spooked me. I'm a newbie working my way through "SAMS Teach Youself Java 2 in 21 Days." I used to code a bit in Symantec's Visual Cafe for Java about 3 years ago, but those brain cells are now gone... This book seems to imply that applets built with Java 2 (SDK 1.4) won't run in IE! It says IE only supports Java 1.0 and 1.1. As my primary aim is to build an applet for sharing from my personal web page, I'm...

Hey sharks If I want an applet that functions in the largest possible number of browsers, which setup should I choose? Is it better to use AWT than Swing? The user is the average, potentially technically challenged user. Kind regards - Jesper

Hi, We are researching options on which technologies to use for an advanced web application. We are planning on using DHTML as much as possible, but there are a few components that require more traditional desktop application functionality (mp3 player for example), which can't be easily accomplished through dhtml or other standard web techniques. So our list is: 1. Flash - very popular these days, but the development tools are

I'm playing around with writing my own panel applets, and I'm trying to figure out how to get my panel applets to be restored when I log in. As an experiment, I'm using the simple clock applet that comes with PyGNOME (clock-applet.py). It works fine when I run it from the shell, but when I log out and log in again, there's just a tiny GNOME-foot icon where the applet should be. After poking around in ~/.gnome/panel.d, I think I've...

First let me state upfront that I'm a Java programmer, not a web developer. Consequently I may be flying a bit wild here... I have scoured the web and usenet for solutions on how to communicate with a stand-a-alone Java application from a web page. Sounds like there is no really good browser independent way other than with applets. Here is what I am trying to do... I want to load a document with two frames. The top frame basically...

On one of my web pages there is an java applets which works fine on my computer. However I noticed on some other computer that the run of java applets are disabled. I got an error message "Classnotfound" Is there a way to detect (with cgi resp. javascript) if java applets are allowed? I would like to show a simple picture instead of the applet pane if applets are not allowed. Wladimir

I've seen references to using <applets ... > and document.applets to access public Java functions from Javascript. Do I still use document.applets with <object ...>? BTW, the FAQS page seems to be broken. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@comcast.net http://home.comcast.net/~ncherry/ (Text only) http://hcs.sourceforge.net/ (HCS II)

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
