unable to port forward my wireless router

Knut Ole

i'm trying to create an open connection from outside (internet) through my router into one of my two computers connected to the wifi.

my external ip is (almost) 79.164.166.167
my internal ip is 192.168.10.103

the router is a wifi-router connected to the internet cable, and my computer is connected wirelessly to the router.

now, i've configured the router (thru the webpage of my isp), and added a port forward for port 4444 to port 4444 on 192.168.10.103.

in my thinking, this should forward any request to the externalip:4444 to internalip:4444 .

however, it doesnt work. if i connect to http://externalip, i get a user/pass prompt from the router. if i connect to http://externalip:4444 , i get no response (nonexistent page).

connecting through the internal network (192.168.10.101 => 192.168.10.103) is working fine. it's the outside connecting i cant get to work...

any help would be greatly appreciated! im on a ubuntu box, the other computer is windows vista (if it matters).

do i need to mess around with iptables, etc.? seems to me this is superfluous as it should all be open if i could just get through my own router!

thanks a lot for any tips!

I'm not an expert in this subject, but in my experience is you try to access http://externalip:4444 with your network (i.e 192.168.x.x) it doesn't work.

Try it from outside of your network.

If I understand correctly you are trying to connect to one of your local "pc" from an outside connection... is this correct? If so Question 2. Do you have a DynamicDNS account setup? and also what is the model of your router. And does your router support DMZ?

hi newsgroup, I'd like to connect to a remote DB2 Database V 8.2 using the "DB2 Steuerzentrale" (I guess it's called something like "DB2 management console" in the English version). Since the database host is behind a firewall I tried to communicate through ssh port forwarding. Therefore, I run: ssh -L 6789:remotename:6789 -L 50000:remotename:50000 -L 50001:remotename:50001 -L 523:remotename:523 remotename

I am having an issue with Visual Studio .net and consuming WEB services. When I attempt to write a program to consume the service, I get the message "The proxy settings on this computer are not configured correctly for Web discovery." I know that I need to make changes in IE's LAN SETTING area. However, I am not on a network but behind a home wireless router. The router's manual does not provide any info on what proxy setting to use...

I have a Netgear DG834G (v3) wireless router. I also host an ASP website from my home computer. I had a problem when I first got this router that was blocking requests from outside from seeing the website. I overcame that problem by adding a firewall rule and everything has been working fine for months. Then last night I had my computer hang several times on a file called agp440.sys. After many attempts I finally got that problem...

this is a new problem. I've set up WEP protection, identified my network as the preferred one and can't get XP to actually prefer my network.

Its my first time configuring DI-524 AirPlus G 2.4GHz Wireless Router. Infact the router is already configured but it is not secured. So i just wanted to make the network secure for which i didnt know how to access the configuration panel. The manual suggests accessing http://192.168.0.1 in the browser but for me nothing turns up. Infact what i am doing is that i have a cat5 cable directly connected to the router LAN port and a pc. Now i have...

Hi - I just bought an Asus laptop with wireless capabilities. I have a desktop that I've used for years that is hooked up to Cox cable for high speed internet through a Motorola SG5120 cable modem. The modem is ethernet / USB compatible, but it currently hooks to my desktop with a USB cable. I bought a Linksys wireless router last night and tried to install. The first problem was that I couldn't hook the USB cable from the desktop...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
