I am using the select call to read from many sockets. I don't want to
call read on every socket to check if it is closed, as it defeats the
purpose of using the select call.
Is there any way to know whether one of the sockets have been closed,
without actually testing each socket.

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a really annoying problem I have
been having. I made a derived datagrid class that will select the row when
a user clicks anywhere on a cell (multi-select without modifier keys). I
got that working fine, but I also wanted to keep rows selected after a sort,
which I do by storing the row's id in an arraylist. The idea was to do the
sort and then go back and re-select the rows with that...

Hi,
I'm using a blocking Select() call on a socket with
a timeout value of -1. I'd expect the call to block
indefinitely, but it doesn't. When I use Poll() instead,
a timeout of -1 works fine and blocks indefinitely.
The net effect is that I cannot write a select on more
than one file descripter if I want to block. (With
timeout values >= 0, both Select() and Poll() work fine.)

I'm stuck trying to work with a HTML <SELECT> control and javascript

I'm trying to get javascipt to select all items in a <SELECT> control
and submit the form to an asp.net page. For some reason when the link
is clicked, you can see the items all...

Hello all -
I am trying to Insert a new record to an Access 2002 database.
Following the insert, I need to obtain the primary key of the inserted
row (person_ID) which is an Autonumber field. I am using the
following code (obtained from MSDN) to do this, but for some reason a
value of 0 is returned. Why is 0 returned????
Dim newID As Integer = 0

Hi All,
I'm new to all this and I'm back for more help. I am working with global
variables. I'm trying to make my xls just display the data for the
defined <moorname>. In my example I am using the second set of elements
C10AB. I can get it to just show the <moornamebut then it wants to
write out all the values for both sets. How can I fix this.
I would like my output to look like this;

Hi,
I have this Applet-hosted Socket connection to my server and in an
ONevent/function I am retrieving all these lovely rows from the server and
inserting them into the Select-List. (The on screen appearance of the Select
List grows for the first 5 rows then the scroll bar appears if there's
more). So far so good. . .
The problem is that none of the rows I'm inserting appear on the screen
until I have RETURNed from my function; so If...

Hi kids!
I've got some code that uses select.select() to capture all the output
of a subprocess (both stdout and stderr, see below). This code works
as expected on a variety of Fedora systems running Python 2.4.0, but
on a Debian Sarge system running Python 2.2.1 it's a no-go. I'm
thinking this is a bug in that particular version of Python, but I'd
like to have confirmation if anyone can provide it.
The behavior I see is this: the...

A part of the man file for select says:
"On exit, the sets are modified in place to indicate which
descriptors actually changed status."
if I want to wait on the same descriptors every time I call select.
Does this mean that every time I
call select the sets are altered and I have to restore them before I
call select again?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
