ODBTP over IP

1 New Member
Hello all,

My company has 2 hosting sites. Site1 has the live web and DB server and Site2 has a backup (mirrored) DB box. In the event that the live DB box goes pop, we need to switch the web server to look at the DB box in Site2. The web server connects to the database using ODBTP and will happily talk to the database on the server in the same hosting centre. When we try to switch it over, we get the following error:

[08001][17][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [01000][53][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect())

All ports are open between all the servers on our firewalls and the boxes can ping each other. We can even telnet from the web server to port 2799 (for ODBTP) on the DB server, but it still isn't working.

Has anybody got any ideas?

Thanks

Stu

What module is most recommended for accessing Sybase from Python? This one: http://www.object-craft.com.au/projects/sybase/sybase/ ? Also, is there any module that provides a generic DB API and can be hooked to both Sybase and postgresql? This (http://www.python.org/peps/pep-0249.html) looks pretty old.

I've got a C library with about 50 calls in it that I want to wrap in Python. I know I could use some tool like SWIG, but that will give me a too-literal translation; I want to make some modifications along the way to make the interface more Pythonic. For example, all of these functions return an error code (typically just errno passed along, but not always). They all accept as one of their arguments a pointer to someplace to store...

Hi, at work we use a solid database and i need to develop an application that accesses it. Problem is the drivers: i only have some dll's lying around and jar. On winsdows i could get by by using ODBC and the dll's to access the solid database but i want to eventually run it on a linux server. Solid doesn't seem to have a driver specifically for Linux so i'm stuck here. Is there any way i can still use Linux and have access to solid?...

Is it possible to have web page hosted by Linux/Apache retrieve data from (and insert data to) an MS Access database that resides on an (Internet-accessible) MS-based machine? Must the MS machine be running MS ISS? I currently use Perl to process scripts (no database linkage) but would likely switch to PHP for database interactions. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dana

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
