How to open XML File from IE into an external app?

I am trying to download an XML file via Internet Explorer and view it in an
external application. The file has a KML extension, which is registered in
Windows file types to my external viewer. So I type the following into the
browser:

http://localhost/test/myfile.kml

And IE displays the XML, instead of launching it in my external viewer!

I can get around this by having the web server drop a
"content-disposition=att achment; filename=myfile .kml" in the header, but I
need it to open by default every time, and apparently auto-opening files is
not allowed when a content-disposition header is set!

Anyone know a workaround? How can I open this KML file in my external
viewer, without IE snooping it, learning that it's an XML file, and then
opening it up itself?

Hi, I need to open an external file, such as *.htm from a Java program. I need to open this file by the default program that handles this extension on the machine. So *.htm should always be opened by Netscape if that is the default browser on the machine. I figured out how to do this on NT but could not find an equivalent command on Linux. Here is what I did on NT.

Hi, I'm having a problem where when trying to open a file in write mode, I get an IOError stating no such file or directory. I'm calling an external program which takes an input file and produces an output file repeatedly, simulating the input file separately for each replicate. The error occurs when trying to open the input file to write out the new data. The problem is difficult to reproduce since it only shows up once every few...

Hello I would like to include text from an external file in my html file. This is normally done with <object> or <iframe> but in this case the style sheet and internal links (like <a href="#positiononpage">) do not work. So I thought of writing a little script which does the following - open the file http://something.com/textfile.htm - put the content of that file in variable "var" - document.write(var)

I want to be able to select a file from the list and use the command button to open this external PDF file. I already know how to use just a command button to open an external file. However, it is very time consuming to use command buttons when you have...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
