Good SGML DTD viewer *or* tool for translating SGML DTDs to XML DTDs

I am an XML author and I am needing to do some SGML work as well. I am
using James Clark's SP (SX) to transform my SGML source into an XML
source for use with XSLTs.

I am needing to write XSLTs for these SGML documents and it would be
nice to have at tool that can do one of these things:
1. graphically view an SGML DTD
2. Transform an SGML DTD into an XML DTD (I would rather not implement
it myself) for viewing with an XML DTD viewer
3. or something else that can help me to do the things I described more
efficiently.

Thanks,
Clifford Racz

No, I didn't try it. It sounded great when I did a Google search, but
if you go to http://www.microstar.com/ you see that the company is
apparently not open for business to the general public any longer. I
got the impression that Near and Far designer was no longer available.

To graphically view an SGML DTD you should try our tool DTD-Help. I
generates an HTML-Help file based on a DTD. A trial version is
available at http://www.ovidius.com/de/download/dtdhelp

A tool to transform SGML to XML is available at
http://www.ovidius.com/de/download/metamorphosis
MetaMorphosis is a tree transformer that supports SGML and XML DTDs
and XML Schemas.

Torsten,
I would like to try that out. However, when I try to access anything on
your site, I get an auto-generated error page (I think it is anyway, it
is in a Germanic language or something and I didn't bother to go to
Babelfish). See the attached page for my error.

Rationale ========= Many applications today benefit from an SGML and/or XML Entity Catalogue to dereference entities referenced by a Public Identifier. For a validating SGML parser this is an absolute requirement. For any SGML or XML parser it serves to enable entities such as DTDs and modules to be resolved locally. Hitherto, different packages and applications have distributed entity

I'm confused. XML looks to be extremely simple to read and write (so simple that I feel confidant I could program serialization and deserailization from a DOM document in an about an hour), yet I see many serializing tools available (Xerces and .NET's System.Xml appear to be the most popular). What functionality do these tools provide that makes them useful over rolling my own parser? -- MJF

Hi, Microsoft provides in visual stdio 6.0, a tool called API text viewer. It is used to access the API related functions. But, I am not come across any tools like this in .NET. Every time when I need for a API declration (C# format), I have to go and search in internet with the api name and get it from some other sample. Any tool (like API text viewer) is there for access APIs in .NET

I believe it was here that I recently saw a discussion that pointed out that the language in the public identifier of a DTD referes to the language in which the DTD is written and has no bearing on what the language of the document might be. I have only seen DTDs with EN. Granted the comments in those DTDs were in English, but the DTD would work the same if the comments were in Klingon or were entirely omitted. I find it difficult to...

I'm working on a list of japaneese entities that contain the entity, the unicode hexadecimal code and the xml/sgml entity used for that entity. A unicode document is read into the program, then the program sorts out every doublet and the hexadecimal unicode code is extracted, but I dont know a way to find the xml or sgml-entity equivalent to the unicode code. Anyone who could give me a pointer? Best regards

I'm now using STG XML validation tool to validate my XML files through uploading. But, STG can not include local DTD files. Also, testing XML files on Firefox and IE always lead to inconsistent results, which is really a confusion to me. Are there any good XML validation tool to introduce?

Another weekend, another project, another problem.... Why should a perfectly fine function work only half-way through when called through onClick in an anchor tag?? The text fade-in script below works when called through onLoad in the <bodytag, but it "hangs" when called through onClick in <a href="#">, as follows: <script language="JavaScript1.2">

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
