I am deploying some software. I want the installer (wise,
installshield, or whatever you reccommend) to smartly analyze the
users computer and look to see if the .net framework is installed. If
it is not installed then download framework and when that is done it
will install my software. What installer package will do this the
best/most easily. Please give me all options. Especially interested in
hearing free ways to do this.

I have a very strange problem.
I have developed a .NET solution. To set up user clients I have also
included a "Deployment Project" in the solution:
Using "File System Editor | User's Program Menu" configuration a "Shortcut"
is created and pointing to the client EXE-file.
The created msi-file, NETProgram.msi, works perfectly on the clients.
A Start Menu shortcut is correctly created in "C:\Documents and Settings\All

Hello,
When a particular user (has administrator rights) on a Windows 2000
Server SP4 tries to run any MSI's we get the message mentioned in the
subject. If we logon with another user that has administrator rights
then it works, if we create a new administrator user then it does NOT
work,
Here is the MSI log, please help as this is causing problems as only 3
users on this box are able to run MSI where are about 15 other users

I want my appliation to Run a Shortcut on my Desktop. This should be done
regardless the fact if the Shortcut is in the All Users\Desktop or
MyProfile\Desktop and regardless the version of Windows (NT, 2000, XP, 2003,
....) (97 also Cor ;-) ).
Is there a way to Access the Desktop-object with VB.NET?
How should I do this?

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and I have built an msi using the built in
setup project. My application installs fine, but on install the
application itself runs a few configuration scripts which alter the
original contents of the directory. The next time you start the
application by clicking the shortcut the MSI automatically tries to
repair/restore the install back to the out of the box configuration.
Any idea how to turn this feature...

Hi,
Two VB.NET Windows Forms (2.0) applications had the same behaviour when they
were run the first time by a user: after clicking on the shortcut, the
location of the MSI-file is asked, and a part of the installation is
(re)done.
What can I do to stop this behaviour? It was isntalled by an
adminsitrator-account, for 'Everyone', and should work?

I have used the Windows Service template to create, well, a Windows Service. It starts, stops, pauses etc. Works great.
I added an Setup project. It builds an .msi (and .exe) file. I thought I was almost finished. I uninstalled my service (InstallUtil.exe via a External Tools macro I made- ask about that).
I ran the newly created installation program. It indeed installed my service exe using the familiar installer wizard. However...

Hi all,
This is slightly OT but it drives me nuts. Whenever I create a
shortcut in the start menu (in Windows) of a python script, it will
only execute it when the path where the script resides in contains no
spaces. For example;
d:\src\app\app.py
If I drag that to the Start Menu it can be executed fine.
