I have an application that runs in the system tray (taskbar notification
area) and it runs at startup. Occasionally I need to release a new version.
I have created a deployment project in .Net. With the MSI it detects
whether a current version is installed and requests that the user uninstalls
it prior to installing the new version. Also, MSI detects a running instance
of the application during the uninstall and requests that it be closed...

I am needing to automate some installation tasks. I first need to determine
if there is already a version of a program installed. The program appears
in the Add/Remove Programs in control panel, and I know this is all stored
in the registry. But short of searching through the entire registry, I
cannot figure out how to locate the program.
I see that in the registry (for .msi) installs, stores something like:...

I have noticed that when I uninstall my app it doesn't delete the Program
Files / MyApp folder if there are "new" files in it that weren't there
before. It deletes all files except the "new" ones. Is there a way to make
an uninstall so that it just completely wipes out my Program Files / MyApp
folder no matter what?

Hello,
I've developed a solution with VS2003, which automates Excel XP. I created a
setup project featuring install of the Primary Interop Assembly
'microsoft.office.interop.excel.dll' in the GAC. I added a condition: If the
dll already exists (correct version) in the GAC then a new install will be
canceled. This condition run. But if I uninstall my program, the entry in the
GAC will be removed. Why?

I have a vb.net deployment project. The program that gets installed can
create custom named files. I don't see any way in the deployment project
options to remove files that were not installed in the first place.
I wrote a program to accomplish that (cleanup program) but how can I get
to execute BEFORE the uninstall removes files? I can add it to custom
actions - uninstall but this only allows things after the uninstall is
through and...

I am developing a Windows application using VS2005 Pro (VB). The solution
includes a setup project. I sent the setup files to a tester and he installed
and used the program successfully. I then sent him a new install package with
some updates but after he did the uninstall via Add/Remove Programs and then
runs the new install package it complains that the program is already
installed? How can I completely uninstall the previous version.

Hello,
I'm having some problems installing Visual Studio 2005.
I'll briefly explain what's the history of the problem here.
First I installed VS 2005 beta 2.
I uninstalled it later via the Windows Uninstall Tool you can download.
Then I installed Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition ENU. This was a trial
version for 180 days.

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
