Visual Studio 2008 Error Message

I have a fresh install of VS2008, and when I drag a data grid on and
try and
bind it (create a new connection) I get an error.
If I connect to a database in the database window and then try and
drag a
table into a dataset, I get the same error.
The error is: "Some Update Commands Could not be generated
automatically.
The database returned the following error: Failed to find or load
the .NET
Data Provider"

Any ideas? It happens with an SqlConnection (MS SQL 2005) and an
Access
connection. Others in my office can do it fine.
I reformatted my PC last week because of a borked .NET installation,
and now
this. It's doing my nut.
Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated.

I have managed to fix this problem. Here is the solution for anyone
else who may get it.

I also have another IDE on my system, CodeGear (Formally Borland
Delphi) RAD Studio.
I don't use any of the Borland database stuff, so I chose not to
install the providers when installing RAD Studio.

However it still added an entry to <DbProviderFact oriesin my
machine.config.
So I commented out the line
"<add name="AdoDbx Data Provider"
invariant="Borl and.Data.AdoDbx Client" description=".N et Framework Data
Provider for dbExpress Drivers"
type="Borland.D ata.TAdoDbxProv iderFactory, Borland.Data.Ad oDbxClient,
Version=11.0.50 00.0, Culture=neutral ,
PublicKeyToken= 91d62ebb5b0d1b1 b"/"

I am guessing that it could not be found, and this was cuusing all
other providers to have an error. With this commented out, Data Grids
now work (and bind automatically) without any error messages.

I'd be interested to know who's at fault here. Rad Studio for the
entry, or Visual Studio for not recovering from this entry.

Regards

I'm running XP Pro/SP2 + patches and updates, with Visual Studio Professional 2008 (and no prior installation of Visual Studio ever installed). When attempting to open an ASP.NET Web application project, Visual Studio shuts down immediately and with no error message. I can open Visual Studio - but when subsequently attempting to open the project, Visual Studio immediately shuts down. More specifically:

1. Why does Visual Studio 2008 started ignoring //{NO_DEPENDENCIES} in resource.h? If I edit file "resource.h" _manually_, it rebuilds the whole solution. It worked just fine with Visual Studio 2005. 2. Why does Visual Studio 2008 not allow having two resource files (that use the same "resoure.h") open at the same time, when they are in different projects of the same solution (localization resource-only dll projects?) It worked just fine...

I recently upgraded from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2008 Standard. While I have a solution open and I am working on a .aspx file, sometimes (every 10 minutes or so) when I highlight code / make a selection, VS freezes up for about 20 to 30 seconds and displays the following message: Microsoft Visual Studio is Busy Microsoft Visual Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete. So, what is the relationship between Visual Studio and Visual Web Developer. I find a lot of documentation on MSDN that presents Visual Web Developer as it's own stand-alone product (which I'd expect of the Express editions), but apparently there are NON Express versions of Visual Web Developer. Is Visual Web Developer only built-in to Visual Studio 2008 Professional? I see "Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008" listed as an installed...

I'm not sure if this is an IIS 5.1 issue or ASP.NET issue, or Visual Studio 2008 issue -- thus posting to 3 groups. Please don't be offended. Visual Studio closes when I attempt to open an ASP.NET Web application (not Web site) solution for which IIS is set as the project's...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
