VS2008 Security Warning on creating projects/solutions.

Each time I create or open many projects I get a security warning from
VS2008 Team Ed:

"Security Warning for {Project Name}"

The dialog gives me the option of loading the solution for browsing only, or
loading it normally. In the "more information" dialog, it says...

"An item referring to the file "" was found in the project file ... Since
this file is located within a system directory, root directory, or network
share, it could be harmful to write to this file."

Needless to say, the projects are located under the default VS2008 location.
It's an annoyance rather than a hinderance, anyone know how to make it go
away?

Regards,

Tim

When you get the error, you said it was this:

>>"An item referring to the file "" was found in the project file ... Since
this file is located within a system directory, root directory, or network
share, it could be harmful to write to this file."

Does it have the file name filled in? Or is it ""? Could your solution
have some kind of file included that is in a different directory?
It actually says "", so I have no idea what it's referring to. It happens
with new projects, so it's nothing I've done.
>
You said the error came from "VS2008 Team Ed" ? I'm not sure what that
means. That's what it says on the error dialog?

Are you running VS2008 RTM, or a beta version of some kind? It's
definitely odd.
Visual Studio Team System 2008 RTM. I've got a few things on top like
Silverlight 2 Beta dev tools, the Vista platform SDK, AnkhSVN etc but I'm
sure it was doing that before, and it's not the only machine it does it on.
I'll try a few uninstalls and stuff.

Cheers,

T

You could try resetting your settings, and see if that has any impact. Look
under Tools\Import and Export Settings.

I've been creating some toy ASP.NET apps in an effort to understand the technology. I've something odd with regards to project/solution creation. If you create a new asp.net application, it appears that the project files get created in the URL specified Location field on the New Project dialog box. This makes sense to me. What is confusing is that the solution file gets created in a folder with the same name as the location folder (the...

Before I download and install 2008, I have a question. One of the selling points of 2008 is multi-targeting. I work on a team where everyone uses vs2005. Can I use vs 2008 for development and have it target .net 2.0 and count on the IDE not to mess up the .csproj and .sln files, so that my teammates can still use the projects and solutions? Thanks.

I have a solution consisting of a c# project as win application and a c++ project as classlibrary. Both are .net 2.0 The classlibrary handles some loading of quicktime movies, but that should not be relevant. On my development machine I build the exe and dll and run the exe which has a reference to the dll. At some point it uses featured in the dll. This works fine. Then I copy my exe and dll to the target system and when the featured...

I've been away from ASPNET - I open up a new Web app in VS2008 and go into properties and select to use IIS instead of the personal web server. Then I run in debug mode and it says I have to set the Debug= True in the Web.config which I do. Then try to run it again and it says I must enable integrated security which I do. I then try to run it again and get the HTTP 403 error - " This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet...

Hello out there, I changed an existing and good working webservice from an wsHttpBinding to an NetTcpBinding. This is working (after trying some time) and has real a better performance! But one thing is strange: when I'm now actualising the web reference from within VS2008, VS2008 creates a 2nd endpoint config in my app.conf. The endpoint is exactly the same as the existing but the name and

I know this is a vs issue but nobody seems to answer posts over there... In VS 2008 I can't seem to get a multiple project solution. If I create a blank solution and add a project to it, it becomes just a project with not solution node at the top so I can't "add a project" to the node. If I add a project from the file menu it becomes that new project. I'm using Vista. Anyone have a clue? Thanks, Gary

Hi, After installing SP1 for VS2008 and SP1 for .NET 3.5 we get the following warning in a VS2005 build: error CS0618: Warning as Error: 'System.Windows.UIElement.BitmapEffect' is obsolete: 'Avoid using BitmapEffects as they have very poor performance characteristics. They will be deprecated in a future version. Consider using the UIElement.Effect property and ShaderEffects where appropriate instead.'

Hi all, In VS2008 when I want to add a new assembly to a solution, Visual Studio is, by default, creating a new directory with the same name as the assembly. In previous versions of Visual Studio this functionality could be disabled, in this version I can't seem to get it to stop doing this. Any ideas? thanks, HC

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
