We are building Chat like application using Forms and as a result our
programming is becoming complicated to display messages received on
different threads in the chat window (due to STA requirements of Forms). Is
there a way to build Chat like application WITHOUT using FORM, so that one
can use free threading model (The link...

I've got a background service running that needs to check a database
periodically and print reports whenever it finds that the data has changed.
I've built a class library that scans the database for the changes, and then
generates a report using the VS.NET 2003 version of Crystal Reports, and
prints the report. It works just fine when I use it in a single threaded
environment.
However, when I build an application that uses a...

Hi Guys,
I am creating a Windows service that call a routine at given interval.
Once routine is complete, windows service should wait for 5 minutes and
then call the routine again. I was using System.Timers.Timer but i had
to remove it because of known bug(842739). Now i am using
System.Threading.Timer. It executes routine fine but the delay time is
sporadic, sometimes it executes routine after 5 minutes, sometimes 10
minuete, 13...

I m looking out for some examples on Windows Service and Threading Model.
Main Process Calls Thread1
Main Process checks whether Thread1 is busy then it creates second thread
second thread again do the processting....
This is because my main process should transfer the load to different
threads, if any thread is free then ask that tread to do the job, else
create a new thread and do the job...

Below are 2 files that isolate the problem. Note, both programs hang
(stop responding) with hyper-threading turned on (a BIOS setting), but
work as expected with hyper-threading turned off.
Note, the Windows task manager shows 2 CPUs on the Performance tab with
hyper-threading is turned on.
Both Python 2.3.5 and 2.4.3 (downloaded from python.org) have this
problem.
The operating system is MS Windows XP Professional.

Hi,
I am not sure I understand what is the meaning of "Execution of
asynchronous code is not supported in Windows Forms threading model" -
since I am able to create threads and run asynchronous code if I create
a Windows form application.
Also what would be the diferrence between the threading model of
Windows forms and ASP.NET.
Please enlighten.

Hello all,
I was perusing the internet for information on threading when I came
across this group. Since there seems to be a lot of good ideas and
useful info I thought I'd pose a question.
Threading is a new concept for me to implement. Here is my problem.
I have a system that receives xml files and records their file
locations in a database. I can potentially receive thousands,

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
