does page reload on back button?

1 New Member
Hi

I have a page that shows many thumbnail images. on load of this page i have some code that invokes a javascript which shows a message saying 'loading images'... this is hidden once all the page/images loads fully. when i navigate to some other page and then hit the back button of the browser the javascript fires and i get the 'loading images'. the images load fast (maybe from cache). but i was thinking i shouldn't be getting the 'loading images' message.

on going to a page by clicking the back button in the browser does the page reload all over again? i would think it should just go back and not do the reload. isn't that how it should work? is there a way i avoid page load (events)?

thnx.

Welcome to TSDN. Usual way is to use if not Page.IsPostBack :

The page_load event will fire every time the page is sent to the server via a postback. If you want to show something the first time the page is accessed use the the !IsPostBack method as kenobewan mentioned. You can see this if you put a break point in your page_load event and do any of the following:

Click refresh.
Hit browser back button.
Do any type of postback event. (button click, etc..)

I've been to websites where if I navigate off a form, trying to get back to it by hitting the back button gives me a page which says "Warning, page has expired". It doesn't display the page. I've been searching around trying to get this to happen for one of my aspx pages and I can't get it to expire. I've put the following HTML tags in the page: <meta http-equiv="expires" content="Sun, Dec 31 1970 12:00:00 GMT"> <meta...

I pop up a Modal form on a web page that allows the user to update the selections of a dropdownlist via adding a new item to the db (Sql Server). The only thing is this list is on the page beneath it. So when the user updates the db with a new selection, and then closes the form, the page below must be refreshed to see the new option. Any ideas on adding the new option to the control below the modal form? thanx.

I know this is an old one, considering how many posts I found on it but I just wondered if any best practises had popped up recently, especially as Ajax has increased JavaScript and DHTML's importance. I'm writing a database application. I like pop-up boxes so I've implemented one on my webpage using a floating DIV. The logic goes like this: 1. When the page is rendered (on the server), it adds "var DisplayPopup = false;" in the page...

Hi all, I'd like a page to be excluded from the back button history, that is, when a user hits their browser's back button, it never backs into this particular page. Can anybody please tell me how to do this? I thought perhaps there would be some kind of special meta tag that says something like "exclude me from browser's history", but have been

I have a page with multiple iframes and need to have the user (ie6) be able to click a button to refresh any one of the iframes - but also to click another button at the top of the page to refresh all of them - from the server (this could be on page refresh also) as the purpose is to reset the iframe to the original content in case the user clicked on a link in that iframe and changed it, but also in case there were updates to the original page...

I have a fairly complex form (generated by means of an ASP 3 page). The form is used to define a query against a database. After running a query, the user hits their browser's back button and goes back to the form, where their selections show up. They can change whatever they want to change and resubmit the new query. Mostly, everything works fine, with radio buttons, selection lists, check boxes all coming back in the state they were in...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
