I have observed that a temporary loss of a domain controller can cause problems creating new ado connections between a client machine running ado and a separate sql server machine that are members of the domain. I understand why this happens when creating connections with windows authentication. What is a mystery is that it also sometimes effects new connections that use "sql authentication". Below is a description of my test scenario. ...

Have two machines with Win 2K 5.00.2195 (Machine 'A' has SP4, Machine 'B' has SP3) and both have DB2 UDB v8.1 FP4 all loaded fresh (not an upgrade). Machine 'A' gives the error 'Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.' when executing a copy command to send a file to a network printer or when trying to delete file(s)located on another machine also on the network with the del command. Machine 'B' executes both commands without a...

I need to access the scheduler service on a network computer in order to manipulate it remotely from .NET; I have all of the necessary code to perform the manipulation and it works - great - but I am having problems with authentication. I have tried using LogonUser and this works fine with a domain account, however it is not possible to use this with an account that is defined only on the remote computer - it only works with local or domain...

When you go to "MyComputer" and get properties and select "Computer Name", you get the Domain or Workgroup a computer belongs to. I have looked thru MSDN library, the Internet, the Registry and in all files on my computer and cannot find how to retrieve this information in VB.Net 2005. This information is essential for our system implementation. I have tried: NetworkInformation.IPGlobalProperties.GetIPGlobalProperties but it does not...

Not sure which newsgroup this question should go to. I want to find out, using .net c# code whether a domain controller on the given machine is read only. The logic I am using is as follows - 1. Use System.Management namespace - ManagementObject and ObjectSearcher classes 2. First find out domain name for the given machine using Win32_ComputerSystem class - DomainName property 3. Use the domain name obtained in step 2 to query...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
