Migration to 2.0/W2003 causes "has encountered a problem and needs to close'

I just got a new server built by my network group with Windows 2003.

I updated a c# console app that was running under 2000/.NET 1.1
to .NET 2.0

When running it on the new machine it runs to completion (based on
trace messages) and at the end of Main() the OS puts up a dialog that
read ".exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience."

Are two buttons, Debug and Close. Debug does not launch anything
even if I use the debug version and have the symbols file present.

I have nested all my code in try/catches and as I said, my trace
messages indicate that it runs to the end of Main().

How can I diagnose this if it happens at the end of the executable
code ?

I've seen this problem posted a million times, but I've read through all of them and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Simple example (this is the whole file, no editing): ---------- <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html>

Hi, I tried to deploy an application written in VB.NET 2005, with the Release Candidate. Everything works fine on my pc which has the Visual Studio installed, but when I install the .NET Framework (v2.0.50727) and the Setup of my prject, I get some nasty error: "MyApplication has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" with the well-known "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send"-buttons. I tried it on...

Hi all, coming from an unmanaged programming background, I took my time to sort out the IDisposable and finalizer patterns. Just when I thought I had it all conceptually neatly arranged, the "Close()" methods reared their ugly (at least it would seem...)heads. I was happily delving away in the .NET framework, investigating the stream classes with the msdn and Lutz Roeder's .NET reflector, when I stumbled upon the following:

Is it your general opinion that C# is generally designed/intended/ready to replace C++? I know the answer is not black and white but please repond YES or NO (add any comments if you would like) I just thought it might be interesting to get a tally. This is related to a previous thread. So far we have two NOs from "aa" and Bo Persson. -- Greg McPherran www.McPherran.com

I have a form that I choose from a list of database names and a list within a textbox comes up with the computer ID number and an associated (from a table) user name. Is there a way from looking at this code to tell the network ID name? I hope not to have to write the code with the "Dev Ashish" API code, which I'm sure is great but I can't figure out how to implement it in a form like mine. Please look at the below code and tell if I can...

Hello All, I am new to these forums and reasonably new to Visual Basic.net. I have been converting a couple of visual basic 6 programs to VB.NET. The programs began failing under windows Vista, so I used the facilities of Visual Studio 2005 to convert them to .NET and then cleaned up the errors. The applications now use both Flexgrid and the printing compatablity library. The applications run great under Vista (where they were...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
